It's Wrestlemania. There's going to always be a celebrity type match. Why not a guy who gave wrestling the best positive mainstream news coverage in ages?
Rourke vs Jericho feud is fine. Just no match. Have Jericho attack Rourke after telling him he's lost touch with his roots, the business, he's no longer the Lionheart.. hell, he has no heart. Then Rourke sides with someone like Punk or an indy guy who's been around for awhile (Danielson could work if the rumors are true about WWE wanting him) or even Van Dam setting a WrestleMania match with Rourke in that guy's corner.
And Rourke of course provides some sort of interference to cost Jericho the match after he cheats.
Something like that would be fine with me.

However rather than having Rourke be punking out Jericho, which almost makes Jericho the face, I'd have it in reverse. I'd have Rourke be Stephanie's special guest for an in-ring interview, where he comes out and pays respect to the business and the wrestlers themselves, before an uninvited Jericho comes out. Jericho could then call Rourke a disgrace, saying that he doesn't deserve all this fame and glory because he's done nothing in the real wrestling business. He's only a wrestler on the big screen with stunt men and costumes. Jericho then slaps Rourke, ambushes him ,etc. Punk or someone comes out for the save. This could either lead to a mixed tag match, which would be a cool way to get Rourke in the ring without the responsilbility of having to carry a match alone. Or they could do something similar to the Lashley-Umaga match from WM23.

Rourke in Punk's corner to even out Jericho's cheating seems to be the perfect way to way involve Rourke without cheapening WM with a potentially bad celeb involved match. The best celeb appearances have been the limited ones in the last 15 years.. Drew Carey, Pete Rose, Mike Tyson.

CM Punk(the 21st century straightedge babyface who came from the indies to the 'glory' of WWE) with Mickey Rourke(the actor who made a mainstream-appealing wrestling movie about the problems of 1980's wrestlers in the 21st century on the indies) in his corner vs Jericho (SERIOUS HEEL ALLATOYAH OF ROCK N ROLLA) would be better for all parties (wrestlers, Rourke, Vince McMahon) concerned.

Rourke had to at least picked up a little from the movie about how to wrestle, he clearly can get in good shape and all that, so I don't see why this couldn't at least be passable. Plus, there would be some awesome promos.
And yeah, it just came out Friday here in Pittsburgh and in a lot of cities.

Rourke has actually wrestled live non-movie matches. He filled in for Necro at the Tournament of Death. I actually thought he was a member of the CZW roster until I went back and re-watched the tournament with commentary. video or it didn't happen Bringing Rourke in is 100x more "money" than Mayweather. Not exactly Mayweather actually kept the buyrate up and gave them a huge buyrate only outdone by UFC and Pacqiao/De La Hoya It's exactly the same thing, except at least Mayweather is a relevant name in sports and in the media. however Rourke is also in the sports and is in a movie called the Wrestler. It does the same thing that Mayweather does, except instead of a young athletic dude and his posse getting mauled by Big Show, it's an aging actor who portrayed an aging wrestler in a movie. It's a whole other storyline

I just want to say that if they do go through with this match I guarentee you the buyrates for Wrestlemania will go way up. This movie is really getting regular non fans into wrestling.

What's awesome is I think Piper will be involved. He better damn well be with it being 25 years after main-eventing the first one. Pipes, Jericho and Mickey will earn my money.

It couldn't be more official now. Only question now is if it is a staight one-on-one match. Seems like Flair will return to train and support Mickie.

I think if WWE hired Shia Labeouf to wrestle at Mania it'd draw in more buys.

First of all I haven't seen the movie, but I am going to take everyone's word for it being good. As far as Rourke vs Jericho, obviously the WWE could profit off of it so they would probably do it, but for Rourke's reputation(especially if he is a contender for Academy Awards) I would not have the match. Heck it would honestly even make wrestling look kind of bad, especially an over the hill actor holding his own with one of the WWE's top talents. I think it would be a good thing for Rourke to be involved with the event, either sitting in the front row, or better yet being in a wreslter's corner. It could be worked similar to Cindy Lauper in the 80s. Heck they could even start it off on Piper's Pit with Rourke as the guest, then Jericho could come out and attacks him(maybe even let Rourke get a couple of hits in before getting beat down). A face wrestler saves Rourke from the beating and challenges Jericho to a match.

This is a good move for the WWE, and it's a good move for Jericho. This puts him in one of the high profile matches at Mania, and in the mainstream match for Mania. This should completely destroy all the rumors about WWE having no faith in Jericho and wanting to bury him. They're putting him in the match at Mania. CM Punk(the 21st century straightedge babyface who came from the indies to the 'glory' of WWE) with Mickey Rourke(the actor who made a mainstream-appealing wrestling movie about the problems of 1980's wrestlers in the 21st century on the indies) in his corner vs Jericho (SERIOUS HEEL AYATOLLAH OF ROCK N ROLLA) would be better for all parties (wrestlers, Rourke, Vince McMahon) concerned. Why not have it be CM Punk/The Ram vs. Jericho/The Rock... Huh Wrestler turned actor vs. Actor who played a wrestler? No offense if The Rock does come back for an appearance, putting him in a tag match would be a stupid move. The WWE would have to do The Rock vs Cena, one on one.

Now if Tom Cruise was the guy challenging Jericho than maybe you would have a point. This is very similar to Laurence Taylor and Bam Bam Bigelow. But we'll actually get better mic work from Rourke and Jericho.

The Wrestler was a movie about the indies, that CZW and ROH were heavily involved in. WWE wants to make money on it, which I find wrong, especially considering until it got Oscar nods, Vince hated it. Once again I'll say this. Your internet sites you go to are full of bs lies, and most of the time. CZW is garbage wrestling, and a by far not a respectable company. ROH well they don't have the monety to compete with WWE, and Rouke who wasn't paid for the movie is most likely getting a shit ton of cash from WWE. Does it suck for those companies. Yep sure does, but in the end it's money that talks.

Most people make it law, but I don't. Anyhoo, I'm not crazy that Jericho will be the sacrificial lamb to Rourke this year, but he beats the hell out of the jackass from last year's Wrestlemania. It does make the wrestlers look bad, tho.

If it was anyone else besides Mickey Rourke, I'd be completely against this. I'm not sure if a straight up match between the two would be the way to go though. Rourke in the corner of a wrestler taking on Jericho would probably be the safest bet. Rourke would still be able to get involved but the fate of the match wouldn't be resting on his shoulders.

IMO it's a bad idea. Rourke is kinda nutty so he might do it but I think both sides end-up looking silly.
Jericho would have to sell for a 50-something actor and Rourke makes a serious, Oscar-worthy movie look like Ready to Rumble.

Haven't seen the movie so can't get pumped up to see this. Never even heard of this Mickey Rourke guy and he looks like some old bum that Jericho could beat with one arm tied behind his back. Not feeling this at all.... at least yet. If I get around to seeing the movie and get blown away then maybe I'd think differently.
