I was thinking of making this just a Turn A Gundam appreciation thread, but then I remembered that maybe 5 people outside of Japan have seen that, so y'know...I'll just make it a general appreciation thread. However, I DID just finish watching Turn A this morning, and I gotta say, it was 100% incredible. It's definitely one of my favourites. Incredible music by Yoko Kanno, great animation that was mostly still hand-drawn, awesome story...just all around really excellent. And the way it ties together every single Gundam series that came before it was very interesting. From Wikipedia:The story of Turn A is viewed from a third perspective mainly concerning the events that happened on the main character Loran Cehack. He is a recruit of the Moonrace which was sent to earth on a recon mission for the later Moonrace massive migration back to earth, which was planned hundred years ago with no positive response from earth. With aggressive parties of moonrace and Earthlings, a war soon broke out between the migrants and the people who lived in the area called Ameria, which was speculated to be America, where the Moonrace claimed to be theirs since their ancestors lived there.
Loran became an active member of the Earth's militia forces with the skills of piloting the white doll, Turn A Gundam, wanting to settle the conflict between Earth and Moon. Discovering more and more history of the past and why the technology deteriorated so much on earth.Really, I highly recommend that if possible, you guys check it out. It's tough, because it never got an official dub, so you just kinda have to hunt and peck to find a subbed version...but really, great stuff all around. APPRECIATE!

The one Gundam show I actually took the time to sit down and watch was Seed. I thought it was pretty good and I'm befuddled to the bad rep it has among the fanbase, but I haven't got a good impression of the other shows outside of a couple of episodes of Mobile Fighter G.

Honestly I haven't seen many episodes of SEED yet. Certainly nowhere near enough to have any sort of judgment of it.
It is the series I'm tackling next though, so we'll see how I feel about it soon enough.
I'm not HUGE on the animation of it, but that's more because I just don't like early 2000's digital animation. It's gotten a lot better in recent years, but back then it just looked kinda soulless to me.
But I don't think that'll effect my enjoyment of the show one way or another.

SEED's animation really helps it out on alot of the later battles. Still a massive fan of all the series.

I've only really watched the Deathcythe Hell...can't remember that series... But i really enjoy putting the models together. Actually, one is sitting on the window sill of my office. He stands next to Shaft and R2D2.

Planning to watch Gundam MS IGLOO this week. Kinda strange that it's completely CGI, but methinks it's be good.

A few weeks ago, I came across a group that currently fansubs the first Gundam series from way back in 1979. I am currently at episode 16 and so far it is AWESOME!! No filler so far, story is good and characters are intersting! Only things negative are the animation (but that is understandable considering its thirty years) and the three children that roam around the White Base (GOD, I HATE THEM!). Otherwise, until now I heartily recommend it

Most people I know hate G Gundam, which is funny to me, since that was the only one I enjoyed.

I absolutely loved Gundam Wing, and from what I saw of it Gundam Seed was pretty solid too.
But, most other Gundam I've watched I've felt very "meh" about

Love the UC stuff (MS O8th Team, Stardust Memory) and 00. Hate Gundam Wing with a passion.

Which one was it that had Heero in it?

Heero was Wing.
G Gundam and 00 are my favorites. SEED was pretty good, too. It's SEED Destiny that sucked horribly.

I also appreciate Gundam 00 actually, if only for the designs by Yun Kōga whose stuff I adore.

Most people I know hate G Gundam, which is funny to me, since that was the only one I enjoyed. G Gundam is best described as a recipe: "Combine equal portions of giant robots, Street Fighter II, the book of Revelations, and the collected works of Sonny Chiba in a large mixing bowl. Mix thoroughly. Sprinkle liberally with cheese." Aside from G Gundam, the only other one I like is Gundam 00. That show is brilliant. I can't wait to see the second season. (I don't "do" fanubs in most cases. I would rather watch the show than read it.) I also appreciate Gundam 00 actually, if only for the designs by Yun Kōga whose stuff I adore. To be honest, I really didn't like the character designs at first. It all seemed so... "generic." I will admit, however, that they did grow on me as the season went on.

Wing was the first one I ever saw, but I grew tired of it realllly quickly. Angst ain't really my thang.
G Gundam was my particular favorite, due to it being light on the angst, and high in the kung fu robot fight department.
And screaming move names. SHINING FINGAH.

That's one thing I love most about G Gundam. You can ACTUALLY ENJOY IT. It is a wonderful concept, an anime with giant fighting robots focusing mainly on the giant fighting robots! I don't give two shits who the pilots are, I just want to see robots fighting!
