Not bad but I can't say I agree with him on everything, particularly that Batman '89 had a better plot. I don't think it really even had a plot per se.

I don't like this one so much because it seems he just gives points to every other movie for the sake of it to keep it "intresting". I mean seriously.... when you say BOB is the deciding factor for deciding which one has the better supporting cast.... that's ridiculous.

I'm in the same boat as NC, both are awesome films, but I prefer Dark Knight. To me, Batman is an amazing comic book movie. Dark Knight is just an amazing movie.
EDIT: I will give credit to him for his love of Bob, because he's basically a "Random Bond Villian #37" that people tend to actually remember. I always had a soft spot for Bob.

Hey, I love Bob to. He's my number one guy, but when truly analyzing the supporting cast... from how well the actors played their part, to how much one likes them, to how big of a bearing they have on the story... Bob is a non-factor.

Bob is a non-factor. Very valid point, but I did have a small mark out moment for him giving the point to Batman just because of Bob. Even tho I disagreed . Actually, I disagreed with all of the "Supporting Characters" argument. But, I marked huge for the Bob love

I couldn't believe NC loved Bob! For some reason, when we were little kids, my cousin and I made the Bob action figure a god compared to everyone else. We had this guy whooping Spiderman, Batman, Hulk, Thanos, Dr. Doom, and Deadpool all at the same time, and just with his knife and gun! NC loving Bob is just awesome in my opinion!
I completely and absolutely agreed with his points on Batman and Joker. While I love Jack, Heath just....I dunno, he really brought something to the character that I loved. Bale on the other hand never impressed me. He had good moments in Dark Knight but I hated his guts in Batman Begins. I also hate the costume he wore, the Keaton costume was dark, threatening, and awesome while still paying tribute to the classic blue and grey (with the Keaton suit have the yellow shield symbol and the yellow belt. I don't know what everyone's problem is with the bat-shield symbol. It's iconic!)
I was really surprised at Critics thoughts on the rest of the cast though. I really loved the guy that played Alfred in Dark Knight and thought he was vastly superior to Batman 89's Alfred. I didn't even think about the love interests, but I agree that Vickie was just more likeable than the other chick. Of course Dark Knight's Harvey Dent and Commisioner Gordan were better as more attention was payed to them. Poor Billy Dee Williams would have been fun to see as Two-face, I think!
I agree with the Critic, and I do give Batman 89 the nod just by a teeny tiny hair...a hair named BOB THE GOON!!

I mostly agree with what the Critic said. The only things of his that I'd switch around would be to give the Supporting Cast nod to Dark Knight and the Joker nod to '89 Batman. I like Bob as much as the next guy, and I see his point about Caine's Alfred making speeches, but man, Gary Oldman as Gordon and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent just could not be beat. Those two guys made the supporting cast. And it's an age-old, tired debate by now, but I honestly can't say I like Ledger's Joker. I'd put it this way: in Dark Knight, Heath did make an awesome, terrifying villain, but not as good of a Joker. It just didn't seem like the Clown Prince of Crime; the Dark Knight Joker just came off like the crackbaby of Charles Manson and Captain Jack Sparrow. Sure, he's horrifyingly insane, and violent, and monstrous, with a dash of quirkiness, but the character of the Joker from the comics has a certain distinctive twist to those elements which is missing there. It just seemed like your stereotypical Hollywood super-insane serial killer, with messy clown makeup on. Jack, on the other hand, just really seemed like the kind of person the evil, psychopathic Clown Prince of Crime from the comics would be. Other then that, I agree with most of it, although I have to say while Dark Knight has the greater variety of cool, engaging action scenes that are more prominent throughout the film, the climax of Batman, from the beginning of the parade to the entirety of the final battle in the cathedral, is simply epic. I can watch all of those scenes over and over again. And I knew immediately when he mentioned Bale at the end what was coming up.

You know, I've never really been into comics and didn't really ever care to see the original Batman til about 6 years ago. I LOVED it once I finally saw it, and love the second one too. I already had an idea of the characters, from watching the cartoon some. The movie was badass, even so many years later. I didn't mind the Val Kilmer version either, it was still decent. The Clooney ones aren't very good, but I thought they're atleast visually fun to watch and sort of a throwback to the old TV show. Not good movies, but atleast worth a watch.
Then Batman Begins comes out. I thought "Hey cool, it's like an updated, edgy version of Batman with Christian F'n Bale in it, this is gonna be sweet!" Went to the theatre and was lost/bored out of my mind. HATED BB. Ugh.
So then we hear about Heath Ledger playing the new Joker. Really? The Gay Cowboy, the dude from Ten Things I Hate About You? Um...okay I guess. Then BAM, the guy ODs and kills himself. And all of the sudden the hype machine goes into full effect. The movie comes out and everyone goes to see it. EVERYONE. Except me. I keep hearing about how Heath Ledger has the greatest performance of any movie character ever. The guy was the new James Dean. All I hear about is how "awesome" the movie is. How I have to drop everything and "snorkING GO SEE IT NOW" Blah blah blah...yeah, sure. I don't bother going to see it, it makes a gazillion bucks. Good for them.
Fast forward to the DVD coming out. At this point I figure, well I may as well atleast give it a shot, since so many people said it was "awesome." I didn't expect to be so freaking bored, so annoyed, and so confused by a comic book movie. This was the most overhyped, overpushed, boring piece of excretory matter I've ever seen. I wasn't engrossed at all. Christian Bale was terrible. Maggie Glynhwhatever was terrible. The guy playing Two Face bored me and his whole moral dilema throughout the whole movie bored me. Even the new movie Elvis, while decent at playing Joker, was so overhyped that I was let down by his performance.
Needless to say, I would rather watch Batman with Michael Keaton ten times in a row, with no break, than sit through The Dark Knight ever again. That's how boring that movie was.
The end. ;D

There are plenty of kick ass Bob's: Bob Schlapowitz, myself, Bob Uecker, Bob Barker, Bob Marley, Silent Bob, Mr. Bob Backlund, Bob McAdoo, and Bobby Heenen.

Any movie that has a greater amount of Billy Dee Williams is always better than a movie without said Master of Pimpin'.

It's soo hard to have to pick between these two movies, but I really agree with NC one one major thing...
Keaton... is... The Batman!

This video just didn't do it for me entertainment wise, honestly.
For his comparisons, I think he was a lot fairer than I would have been in that case.

I love both films, but to me, Dark Knight just barely manages to edge out Batman at the #1 spot for me. Both Keaton and Bale do a great job as Batman/Bruce Wayne, although, I do agree that Bale goes way over the top with Batman's growly voice. He sounds constipated and totally pissed off for being so. I also think Heath Ledger's Joker persona is better than Jack Nicholson. But Jack is great as the Joker too. Again, the margins are small as to who gets the number 1 spot here.
However, I would put Batman Returns over Batman Begins, and I know I'm in the vast, vast.... VAST minority on that one.

Very interesting review actually. I do agree with the subtlety of Keaton's Batman. the voice, however does not bother me. The wonderful thing that Batman Begins did was it somehow logically explained the reasons why Bruce Wayne would do the things he does. To me it makes sense that he would completely disguise himself as a symbol of fear--voice included so that no one would know who he is.
Back on track, its a hard thing to compare. Aside the hype machine that was Ledger's performance, I think he served his performance very well. And that was bringing forth a new iteration of The Joker in Nolan's version of the franchise. I feel like Nicholson brought to life image of The Joker.
Both of these films were magical in their right and I don't think I'd be able to say one was necessarily better than the other. These were different films made in different times.

It's soo hard to have to pick between these two movies, but I really agree with NC one one major thing... Keaton... is... The Batman! The only thing that surprises me with this is that Keaton p[layed comedic characters before being Batman. Beetlejuice anyone? However, he did a great job with the role. I also agree with him that the original is better. Dark Knight was good but The original had some of my favourite actors.

I agree with most of what he said, except for the one about the action, mostly cause I didn't like Batman's fighting style in the Nolan movies. It was pretty much just him hitting people with his wrists. It was kinda wooden, too. It is probably more realistic, but it's kinda dull.
And Yes to Reign of Fire 2!

I totally love Dark Knight and after seeing it in the cinema, I went home and watched the original Batman, which to me looked like an amateur production next to TDK. I didn`t think it was very good at all.
