I am so stoked for this film.
I still can't believe it had 42 reviews in a row with 100% on RottenTomatoes yesterday.
Friday cannot come fast enough.

I never really got into the old shows but this movie actually looks really good. Maybe it will be at my local drive in in like a month with Terminator. That would be sci-fi sweet.

Just Fandango'ed IMAX tickets for Monday night. If I never saw any other movie or the show, will it go over my head?? I want to understand at least most of it.

The hardcore fans aren't happy though... I don't think it's possible to please unreasonable hardcore fans. They all have their own grandiose version of the movie (that's normally ridiculous) and if it's not that movie to a T, they hate on it.

I'm a pretty big Trek fan, and at first I was very skeptical about the look of the new Enterprise, but the more I see it, the more I like it. Can't wait to see how the Engineering area looks.

I don't think having a high standard when it comes to something that is highly steep in it own mythology with it own fan base of people they call them trekies & trekers instead of just sci-fi geeks; An has also been already transcribed to both the big screen and tv; So many time they have a working formula for the product like coke cola; An It understandable to see fans hesitant to small changes let alone big ones when executives who have zero ideas of the importance to the true fans the story is to them; An they make their choice off of what is marketable instead of what is true to the material.
I am a star trek fan grew up watching TNG,DS9 AND VOYAGER. An I watched the original when a tv channel actual played it but I never been or plan to go to to a trek convention or learn klingon or Romulain or even Vulcan. But I can understand why the hardcore trekise fear this movie..... It like a sickle that looms over their head ready to fall on something very dear to them...... I mean alot of fans looked down on voyager but keep watching so the networks would keep making a television series which got them Star trek enterprise which wasn't much better and did such hatch it job on the strength the series had back then we haven't seen another attempt at another main line tv version of trek sense because the fans couldn't watch the derage.....This movie make them afraid because they all know if trek tanks the box offices gods will not attempt another trek ever again in their life times and any hope that this movie could parlay a possible rebirth to the tv would be cut to ribbons forever.
So I can understand why people could possible be holding their breath and even be hating the idea this movie is so close to coming out; But People need to rember one thing this is parmount doing this one not 20 century fox !!!!!!!

Trying to please some hardcore fans is a lost cause (thinks back to the "Daniel Craig Is Not Bond" B.S. and the Watchmen controversy) At this point (and I hate to say this, since I'm a long-term fan myself) Trek needs to expand and get new fans rather than try to constantly please existing ones. The existing fanbase is too small to support new T.V. shows and movies (Nemesis and Enterprise were proof).

I like Original Series and TNG, and I was hooked when I saw the first trailer.
Me seeing this movie is matter far more of money than interest.

I was going to post the Onion parody, but no need now. I thought it was hilarious. Pause and look at the message board topic titles.

My dad was a big fan of the original series, even so much so as to not like The Next Generation. So, needless to say, he's not planning on ever seeing this.
My question is, if they wanted to do something non-Star Trekish, why not just do original characters? Why do something for new fans starring characters from the '60s?

Does anyone know if there will be any small references to LOST in the movie? I only ask because there were little nods to it in JJ Abrams other stuff (Cloverfield, MI3). Anyone know>

Because there is already public awareness of the characters which helps a lot with the promotion I suppose...but if its geared towards younger, "new" fans, did they really gain much? Because other than parodies of those characters, those fans wouldn't really even have a clue who they are.
