I've not heard the latest two though, so they might be even better.

They've both been half good and half bad.
I'd say find these songs:
From "I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being the Master" *phew*: - Down at McDonelzzz - Dance Pattern - Randy's Hot Tonight! (me and a mate want this as Orton's music...also my favourite E6 song ever) - Lenny Kravitz
From "Flashy": - Gay Bar Part 2 - Formula 409 - We Were Witchy White Women - Transatlantic Flight (my second favourite E6 song)
...yeah. I'm not fanatical. AT ALL.

Rush is pretty fringe in the U.S. Nah, I hear about 8-10 different Rush songs that get regular radio play on the classic rock station around here. They are quite well known in the US. They sell out Red Rocks in Denver constantly.

Rush gets a lot of radio time on the classic (and even more modern) rock stations here, too. They're really popular and can still sell out arenas and stadiums, though obviously the peak of their popularity was a couple of decades ago. Of course, they're considered gods in Canada, so they'd be less popular here than that.

the New York Dolls. The press loved them, the public hated them. Their music didn't ever really translate out of New York, especially with their look. Ironically, if you trace it back thru lineage, almost everyone has ripped off something off the Dolls. KISS? Alice Cooper? Most glam-rock acts? Largely glam rock, but their tenticles stretch further into guys like Bowie and everyone he influenced, harder rock like Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue (stuff that once in a while is labelled hair metal). Just because of the way influences work, I didn't mean to imply a direct relation to everyone.

Rush is pretty fringe in the U.S. It looks like they're getting some credit from the mainstream press nowadays, they're getting a star at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame this year for example.

But can being on a walk that features such luminaries as Vince McMahon and Susan St. James REALLY be considered "Mainstream"

Cold Chisel got nowhere in the US, despite them being ridiculously popular in Australia in the early 80s.
