The Soylent Green entry is puzzling. Wouldn't a movie with "nothing memorable except the ending" be perfectly ripe for a remake?
And I think Mission to Mars was the closest to a 2001 remake we should ever get. Don't even try, Hollywood, because you'll probably just make ANOTHER Mission to Mars (lousy movie, wanted to be something huge but was just a colossal blunder of a mistake).

Citizen Kane is boring? There goes your credibility, article. I think the one criticism people have of that film is that while it is superbly directed, what's being directed isn't that great. The acting is average, the story is...eh, not that interesting. It's basically some old rich guy dying alone.

Yeah, but it's the story of a rich old guy dying alone that happens to unfold in a totally awesome and engaging way.

2001: A Space Odyssey remake? No. This, this, this. The rest of the list was pretty good, but no way should 2001 receive a remake. And yes, I HAVE sat down to watch it recently, and it's still 100% brilliant and perfect. I don't think it would work in any other way than the one it was executed.

2001: A Space Odyssey remake? No. I'd be fine with that. I think the original is so overrated.

These kids need to do their research. It's Devils Tower in Close Encounters, not Devil's Peak. It's listed and mentioned in the movie plenty, so there's no excuse.

Do NOT remake 2001, the last thing I want is a Baytastic remake of one of the most engaging and cerebral sci-fi films of all time

They Live needs to be on the list of "DO NOT TOUCH!" movies.
You can't remake A Boy And His Dog either, that's madness. The film is so much of it's time it wouldn't make any sense now, and the plot so black, I dread to think what subtleties would go missing in a modern take on it.

The director's primary job is to get the best performances out of his actors. If the acting is just average, then so was the directing. As a film school graduate, I can tell you right now that a director gets far too much credit/blame for the final product of a movie. The only thing they can single-handedly be blamed for, as I said, are bad performances.

I mean, they're directors, not miracle workers. There's only so much you can with limited talent. Keanu Reeves has acted with some amazing directors, and he's never been that great in anything.

I can't accept anyone knocking Kane. Just bearing in mind what year that film was made, and then seeing the direction that went into it, is jaw dropping. Besides that, yes, it's engaging and immersive, as well.

2001 can be remade. You know, as something a little more lucid, you know, somewhere between "American Pie" and Eyes Wide Shut.

The Soylent Green entry is puzzling. Wouldn't a movie with "nothing memorable except the ending" be perfectly ripe for a remake? Well, the ending of that was the 'big secret' of the movie... having people sitting down knowing how the movie ends turns the show into an exercise in patience to see how the secret is revealed. It would tank. Although, if they remade the movie WITHOUT using the original name OR letting people know that it was a remake... that might catch the early audience off guard. After the first week the story would be out and the audience would drop. Anyways, I agree with the movies on the "DO NOT" list and I agree with 2 of the movies on th "DO" list. I think that a remake of "The Final Countdown" has the potential to be all kinds of awesome, and in the right hands, "Logan's Run" would be a great s/f look at the 'young at all costs' culture.

No touching Logan's Run. That flick is a product of it's time and god bless it. There's no way that film could work without the charm of 70's nostalgia glasses. And nobody, but NOBODY, will ever play Boxx as well as Roscoe Lee Browne.
