so im a 24 year old male who has had his own apartment since age 19. I went from a small upstairs apartment paying $325 a month plus utilities...... then after a year I moved into a small 2 bedroom house while paying the same rent ($325 plus util) for 2 years, and now ive been at this nice two story, big yard, garage home right by the park but with a steep price of $500 a month plus utilities. Im sure most of you would kill to have a home like I live in now for only 500 a month, but im from a town of 2500 and I think besides a couple houses on the golf course that go for $600 a month.. im paying out the ass for rent!
Heres my question/dilemma... Ive been approved for money to get a house and Ive found one that very very very small, ( 1 bedroom) but with a nice yard that fits into my budget and even though its small, the house looks brand new!..he redid it all
sooo should i continue to rent paying the 500 a month? Should I look for a new place thats cheaper..orr should I take the big plunge and buy the house!!! I really like the idea of not wasting my money in rent, and the house payments would only be $345 a month
anyone else in this situation?... how many homeowners/renter do we have?.. any pros and cons?
im young... not married...and wouldnt have a problem making payments
also really interested in buying now because of the first time home buyers tax credit...FREE money to fix up the house and this house doesnt need much cause its all new, i could just add my own touches!
any help would be great/any experiance

I'm 19 but moved out back in October when I was 18. I live above my grandma but hey, I still pay rent, cable, internet, and all that. No freebies for me sir. It's fun living here though.

For me, it's rent considering I live 140 miles away from my parents.

still a renter, but we hope to own our own place within the next few years. In our town you have to move about every 2 years or so to stay ahead of the bad neighborhood elements that move in and ruins the place.

I "own", I mean, the banks owns, but, I guess I really do, you know?
I dunno, I'd almost rather rent, with rent if the shit hits the fan, one has options. Now that I own, I'm pretty much on my own as far as making payments, they expect them no matter what and "no job" doesn't count as payment.
I work now, but that could change in a week when I'm staring down the barrel of a possible lay-off.....or a possible permanent position.....depends.
So I'm either set or f***ed, guess we'll see what the next 2 weeks brings.

Rent.
I pay too much, but I'm not locked into a lease so it's ok.

Still living at home with my parents and I'm 25. They're cool with the fact I have no ambition to move out.

Rent, but can not wait to own my own modest home. I just need some room to stretch. Yard, dog, basement, garage.

Renting right now, was supposed to be rent to own but they (the people I am renting from) decided against it. Paying $450.00 a month plus utilities for a 2 bedroom, one bathroom trailer. Hoping to be able to find something very soon in the price range that I can start paying notes on instead. It would nice to have something that would be mine eventually. But, right now I have a place to live so I cant complain.

I rented for 3 years when I was at Uni. Then moved to a Uni closer to home, works out far cheaper for me to stay at home and pay for the internet and groceries.
No intention of moving out as I'm off to Japan in 2 years as an English teaching assisstant!

I'm a renter of a two bed room house. It is a decent size house. I rent it from my grandma who has 4 rental properties. Which I live in a block where my family owns 7 out of 9 houses. She has her house and the 4 rentals. My dad who lives next door has his own and a rental. So I'm in a pretty good spot.
I pay to rent but I got a cheaper rent then if someone else would to live here. Plus all the things grandma does for her grand kids.

I'm 15 and I live at home with my parents. My Mum says I can pay her rent each month to stay here if I go to Uni, she thinks a nursing course would let me go to Uni during the day and come home in the evenings. Score.
