How did they do it to make it look real? He was hanging 30 feet in the air with a noose around his neck and he didn't die. How did they book it?

I've seen a video before of an illusionist who did a trick where he hanged himself while he tried to free himself from shackles. It was on one of those Most Amazing Videos type shows. The guy basically had a harness hidden under his shirt that would hook onto the noose to take the pressure of of his neck. The trouble was his harness malfunctioned and the guy actually did hang himself(not fatally of course).

I remember being hugely disturbed by this segment when it happened... and I still am to this day. I just don't think there was any need to do anything like that.

And this is why the ministry is the greatest period for the Undertaker.

Man...how did they get away with this? I remember it as a kid but I guess I never thought much of it. Did this like "kill" off the bossman character for awhile? I don't quite remember.

Alice Cooper did a simmilar thing his harness snapped and he was writhing and choking for ages before the roadies realised he wasn't "just good at acting"

After watching that for the first time in years all I can think is "Was that really necessary?"
If Bossman had actually been "killed" by this, or at least been on the shelf for a while, it may have made up for it. Slightly. But IIRC he showed up on Raw the next night, as if he hadn't been hung from the Hell in a Cell the night before.

i don't get how they managed to do this live... what actually happened with getting him down from the noose, if i recall correctly there was a few minute break and him and the cage were just gone and ready for the next match.
Maybe someone who was actually there can clear it up

In its defense, it was the only memorable aspect of that match.

Yeah, I keep thinking about this for years, and it makes no sense. I think someone told me that they held is feet up for a certain amount of time before he couldn't hold on any longer. I'm not sure how it worked, but shoot. That looked really devastating.

It looked (still looks) awesome. Wasn't it done to show the hatred between the Corporation/Ministry? I mean if one of your members is hung by your opponents you'd be pretty pissed. As for why they chose to hang him it was probably to be memorable and do something a little out of the ordinary-it worked seeing as we're talking about it over a decade later. Tasteless? A bit yes. Memorable? A bit yes.
Going from seeing a man being hung to talking about the Wrestlemania weekend is pretty stupid though.

It was very memorable, especially since the Hell in a Cell match they had wasn't all that good. But again, they had the two previous ones to follow up on. I think it was a good visual to show how evil Undertaker was back then, and he did some pretty evil shit, and it was a great place that The Undertaker went. It's a real shame that they combined the Corporate Ministry, because it added a lot, having all these people feuding against each other.
I think another aspect that hurt the match was it was tough to get a crowd to react to such a match, because both were heels. And, matches like that can be worked well (Angle vs HHH at Royal Rumble 01 was a very good example), but it doesn't work in every situation.

It definitely didn't help that at the end of the storyline we found out Vince had Undertaker terrorizing him in a roundabout effort to screw with Stone Cold. Plus we ended up with the Corporate Ministry.
