Well if you're not speeding, then it shouldn't bother you.

How about: f*** the people going trough red lights? I agree with this sentiment. And I don't mean close yellows. I mean people who just blatantly go through red lights without giving a shit about anyone else.

When they start doing that in your town/city to the speed cameras I hope they just send you the bill for the replacement cameras instead of putting on all the tax payers who don't speed anyways to care about them in the first place!

How about: f*** the people going trough red lights? If someone goes through a red light, thats one thing. Now if another person is going too fast to be able to slow down in time and is already a quarter across the street by the time the light turns red, its bulls*** for them to get a ticket for that...

Well if you're not speeding, then it shouldn't bother you. Everyone speeds and if you don't you either live in a very congested city, or don't drive much. If you ever drive on the interstate speeding is necessary. Sticking with the flow of the traffic around you is much more important, and safer then following the speed limit.

You say that like it's an excuse, but it's not. If you choose speed you take the risks on board. You may get a fine, you may have an accident, but you are ultimately responsible for what happens. If you're old enough to drive, you're old enough to make your own decisions. You can choose to speed or you can choose not to. You don't have to do it. It doesn't matter where you are. If you go over the speed limit, don't expect any special treatments because you were just going with the flow. That's why they make multiple lanes on bigger roads.

These things are about generating cash via speeding fines. If anything, they're likely to cause accidents rather than prevent them when people slow down abruptly when they see them.

That's more of a case of drivers following too closely and/or not paying attention. They could slow down for anything, it's no fault of a speed camera.

Its important to remember technically speed limits are suggested speeds for safe driving and if you make a case that your speed was not excessive or unsafe to a judge (in a city who's not over budget) you can get away with no ticket. I personally have NEVER been pulled over on the freeway for speeding, its rare to see someone pulled over on the freeway here EVER for whatever reason. Remember though, when arguing technicalities in a court of law your Judge may vary.

True, but if you see one it's almost a reflex-like reaction to hit the brakes however fast you're going. Speed cameras are moneyspinners, plain and simple.

There is a speed camera every five minutes (Two minutes in car) in my area. Even though my area doesn't get alot of traffic. This happens a lot in small towns, with ticket money being a source of income for the town, which is counter productive to the original purpose of speeding tickets. Rather than trying to curb crime, they try to turn it into a business. Speed cameras serve a purpose, but they ignore the fact that, at least in some places, the speed limit is not written in stone. If you read the law carefully, the speed limit is actually a suggested speed. Legally, if it's unsafe to go that speed, i. e. everyone is speeding, you are not breaking the law by speeding in turn. It's rather complicated, but has held up in court before. You just are probably better off not testing that limit.

Well, they only go off if you enter the intersection when its red, so its pretty hard for me to side with people that get the ticket.
EDIT:
They have made them for speeding? BULLSHIT! More sledgehammers.

I speed all the time when driving on the interstate. And if I get a ticket for it, I'll take the consequences for my actions like an adult; I won't piss, moan, and act like there's a great injustice being done.

I got a ticket for speeding in Grapevine Texas, it was actually the back roads of the airport but when you get a ticket from the airport police its a toss up which city they send the ticket to sometimes.
The morning I went to see the judge he gave the whole room of 80 or so people a long speech how the Texas legislature had gone over a billion dollars over budget and had raised the fines on most traffic tickets. As a result of this his new policy was to give EVERYONE the minimum fine.
Cool Judge.

A lot of quotas and BS seem to deliver the message people in office think that speeding is some ATM.
