Is bret warming up to Shawn? As far as I can remember, Bret's always been a big enough man to publicly admire Shawn's in ring work.

Yeah a union in wrestling would TOTALLY work These older guys just want money. Maybe you shouldn't have blown on your money on coke and women. On the Union thing, I haven't listened to the interview but reading that transcript he didn't say it would work, he just said they need one. And trust me he didn't have to pay for many women, if any.

Still, I think if he was being sincere here he has definitely gone a long way to forgive and forget. While he has often said he respects Shawn Michaels as a wrestler, he did not like him at all personally, especially after Montreal. Bret of the late 1990's would never have even thought about having his farewell match with Shawn. Now, Austin, sure - they worked very well together and I have not heard about them not being on good terms.

As usual from Bret, a combination of ridiculousness and insight.

Given your username, I'm just going to assume you're being biased against Bret. He's more than fine financially and never was known for being into all the drugs and promiscuity on the road, so that comment just comes completely out of left field. pick yourself up a copy of brets book So what? His main vice was promiscuity, but in the grand scheme of things he's alive today when so many of his peers are long gone due to allsorts of addictions!

Bret has always thought highly of Shawn as an in-ring competitor, regardless of how he feels about him personally, nothing new there people.

It doesn't seem that Austin needed Bret's torch. Shawn seems to be doing pretty well, too. Bret seems to be a little too worried about the torch. I've always seen their WM13 match as the torch being passed, really.

I've always seen their WM13 match as the torch being passed, really. Hardly honestly. Austin lost but didn't give up. For there to have been a torch passed we would have to see a clean pin by Austin on Bret for the title and Bret to slowly fade out of the picture. This was just the match that showed Austin could hang in the main event crowd. Austin's torch was passed to him at Mania 14 and he passed the torch at Mania 19 when he retired. I don't think he passed it to The Rock, but he passed it to a new generation of main eventers.

I think Bret still feels it should have been him rather than Shawn who did the huge torch passing at WM14, which turned out to be the most successful torch passing in hsitory.

Would a union benefit wrestlers? Certainly. Could the wrestlers cooperate and organize one? Doubtful. Undertaker is a locker room leader and has been for a very long time. I see no reason why he wouldn't work as a union leader. He's strong-willed and wise.

I thought WWE had a Union at one time...
Foley, Show, Shamrock and Test.

That would have been awesome to see Bret vs Austin at Wrestlemania. Vince should have kept Bret until then and let him go to WCW afterwards. However at that point the company was turning around, so I bet Vince could have afforded to keep Bret. As far as Bret and Micheals getting on friendly terms it would be nice to see. Lately, Bret has finally admitted that he didn't drop the belt at SS97 because he didn't want to job to Shawn, he never named that as a main reason before. What he said here was pretty surprising. Also when Micheals was asked who he would want to induct him into the Hall of Fame, he said who knows maybe even Bret Hart. If Bret truely wants to pass the torch and make ammends this would certainly be the best way to do it.

I'd like to know what Bret's answer would have been if asked "Do wrestlers need a union" in 1994 when he was the "company guy".
If Bret feels strongly enough about the issue, there were times he had enough influence on McMahon to make it happen. He did nothing.
People shoot others down in flames for shooting the idea down in flames or for being the "company guy" like Cena, but when you're arguably the most influencial figure in the company for five years and you don't pipe up in favour then, it's advisable to keep your mouth shut when it comes to criticising others for doing the same.

Bret has admitted that the main thing with Shawn and Triple H is he will not forgive them for destroying the KFabe, and helping to make wrestling more vulgar like they did with DX. Whether you agree with Bret or not, he grew up in the business and he was raised to protect it and it's secrets so what DX did was an insult to him. He also admits one of the reasons he doesn't talk to Shawn to try and bury the hatchet was him having mood swings from his stroke. It sounds like a lot of that has gone away, but he's pretty much done with wrestling and happy with his life.

Bret is saying they need a union for the current generation of young stars to protect them and to give them a better future than the stars of previous generations. He's not looking to get anything out of it for himself. Bret admits in his book to cheating on his wife for years, but he also says he did that to keep himself away from drugs. Wow, color me surprised. The drug thing sounds like a real cop-out of an excuse for cheating on his wife. Then again, does anyone remember Bret's first wife? I can almost understand it.

It's pretty much a forgone conclusion that wrestlers sleep around...
But on the union thing, when you're in the spot and making a bunch of money of course you think everything is fine you don't wanna blow what you got coming in.
But simply put if any number of wrestlers wanted to do a union they'd all be fired, blackballed, and then replaced by the line that formed to take their spots.
