Bret admits in his book to cheating on his wife for years, but he also says he did that to keep himself away from drugs. He also admits to using steroids and using cocaine and pill popping. "Steroids saved my career" According to his shoot and the Nasty Boys, he was a huge coke head. Ya, he's pretty honest in his book about using all sorts of drugs up until the original drug policy came in in like 93. He admitted to doing coke, using 'roids, and smoking grass until the first drug policy came in, which he says was really heavily enforced from 93 til early 97.

What about Flair/Sting from 1988? Flair won but that match turned Sting from just a mid-card UWF transplant into a superstar. You dont always have to lose to pass the torch. I think it depends on what you mean by passing the torch. Personally, I interpret it as the big star having his last match, propping up the new (relatively) guy and showing he's the successor, then leaving. The Bret-Austin match was great and it made Austin a superstar, but it wasn't passing the torch per se.
