i like most of these things. i'm on twitter and facebook, russell brand is one of my favourite comedians at the moment, lady gaga's music is strangely entertaining, reality shows are pretty funny when you accept them tongue in cheek, and even though i haven't read or seen twilight, all the twilight related stuff i've seen isn't THAT bad.

Heh. Just wait until YOU'RE stuck next to three giggling COLLEGE girls (you'd think they'd be too old for this crap) who are debating whose package is bigger: Edward or Jacob's. And they call security on ME when I butt in and tell them I don't know about that, but I'm pretty sure when Bella has her period, it's buffette night at Casa de Cullen. Yeah, like I'm the one who perverted the conversation. ;D

Watching poker. That's about it. I don't love everything, but I also can understand the appeal of a lot of things.

This. I liked the 40 Year Old Virgin because the comedy felt different and refreshing, but of course, that style has been subsequently run into the ground, and is no longer funny (at least in my opinion). Another style of comedy I don't really "get" is the Will Ferrell style comedy. I'll admit I laughed at a couple parts of Anchorman, but every movie he's made since has just made me roll my eyes and groan. That's funny, I love every Ferrell movie, but for some reason I hate Anchorman. I don't hate it, but I do like Talladega and Blades of Glory more.

I hate AC/DC, but I wouldn't say I don't get why they're popular. I listen to alot of really abrasive music, so I can't judge.

Prom. I just saw it as a waste of space but now the time is getting closer (A year away xD), I'm starting to like the idea. Plus the fact I have found the most perfectest dress ever seems to help www.unique-vintage.com/ravishing-gathered-taffeta-black-prom-dress-p-3084.htmlI think I'm gonna order it around Xmas time, and if they don't do it anymore, they'll have one p*ssed teenage girl on their hands! It's totally worth the £113 price

There's plenty of stuff that's popular that I can at least understand why they're widely liked. I may not like a certain singer, but maybe said singer's songs are really catchy. I may not like a certain book/movie, but maybe it just has a sort of generational or gender or whatever appeal that isn't meant for me.
However, what I genuinely do NOT understand, and I think these have gotten popular enough that they qualify for a list like this, are tattoos and piercings.
Seriously, I see nothing to gain from either, yet I know tons of people who are either addicted to getting them, or desperately want at least one. I never grasped why.
I also know guys who prefer going out with a girl who's got tattoos, which is where I really get confused...how do they add to the experience? Ah well, I'm likely overthinking this stuff.

This probably won't go over well, but...
Michael Jackson. I dug him as a kid, but to see him as an artist/musician, today, looking back, I just don't see him as the "greatest entertainer ever." Granted, he did do philanthropic work and a family is without a son, a brother, a father. I'm not insensitive to the fact that he was a human being. But, to me, he really didn't change the form of pop music, just its presentation. His songs I don't think have revolutionized how people write songs altogether. Yes, he made the music video longer. But how many of those long music videos (his videos or any other music act) are actually good to begin with? He came up with the Moonwalk, but again, it didn't really change the way perceive dance.
The way I see it, he did what he did well, in his heyday. I couldn't ever take away his successes over the years. But as the "best" entertainer? I just don't see it. I don't think anyone would deserve such a label either, before I am asked "well then who IS the best entertainer?"
Other things I don't get necessarily:
UFC (and perhaps MMA generally). I try, I really do, to get into it. I think I'd actually enjoy UFC if the fighters didn't take themselves so seriously. Yeah, you're the baddest man alive because you know how to throw hands. And? That's it? I'm sure there are humble MMA fighters, but more often than not, the loudmouths with the baggy shorts take up most of the screen time. Maybe if I look at MMA that isn't in North America I'd find something I could latch on to.
Twitter. I have Facebook because I'm able to keep in contact with people that don't live in the same city, province, country that I live in. MSN is for my best friends, Facebook is for friends, acquaintances, etc. But to have a Twitter? Yes, my 140 characters or what have you are SO important. Twitter is narcissism and vacuity at its finest, especially since it's become a bizarre looking glass into the mundane activities of celebrities.
American Idol. I really don't get how this show still pulls in huge numbers. It's a glorified karaoke show. Not to mention it doesn't develop any artistic talent. "Sing songs we already know!" And people wonder why the music has died.
Pixar films. Now, I actually like a lot of the Pixar films, but people speak of these films like they are infallible, when the company on the whole has fallen into cliché. I don't mind something familiar, but don't pretend you're doing something groundbreaking when it's painfully old-hat. I would rather the company be honest about their products rather than marketing themselves as some kind of game-changer of how to tell computer-animated films. When you stop designing your characters for the emotionally cloying, manipulative, wide-eyed innocents that they are, maybe then you will earn the ability to deflect criticism.

It's totally worth the £113 price Ummm...just curious, but if you order it so far in advance, won't you run the risk of it not fitting properly when the time comes to wear it? I mean, you might put on weight over the holidays, and then LOSE so much after that that the dress hangs on you like a tarp. That actually happened to a girl I went to high school with. She thought she was SOOO overweight, and was so worried about fitting into her prom dress, that she damn near dieted her way out of the thing anyway. The main thing was that she lost weight rapidly in the chest area (went from like a solid C to barely a B) and the dress was all loose fitting there. Luckily she was able to have it altered in time, though I guess it cost her a pretty penny to have it done on short notice. *Shrug*

Oh, and if I'm spending around $100 on a dress, I'm going to keep tabs on my figure.(and save up for any alterations I may need) I'm not the biggest fan of pop music and I don't watch the show for real. However, I don't get American Idol hate. Especially, people complaining about singing other peoples' songs. I think anyone can write a song to make themselves sound like the bestesty best singer in the world. You have to have some talent to sing someone else's song so good, you make it your own. Look what Elvis and Etta James did.

Twitter. 95% of reality shows. Harry Potter. Lord of the Rings. Wow.....I agree with all of this. I'll also add American drama shows. Now I'm sure Lost, Prison Break, Bones, Sopranos, The Wire etc are all great I'm not doubting that.....I just don't have the time to watch every episode. Cos I'm watching too much wrestling/football
