As the other one was nearing 30 pages and with the amount of people who will be going to see it next week in the rest of the world, the thread will reach 30 in no time. So here's a brand spanking new thread. The film was released in the UK today, all reviews and thoughts go here.
And this thread will contain spoilers. You have been warned.

Just throwing it out there now to get it out of the way.

Me either, I mean yea he's got a weird Oedipus thing with his mom but I think he's an OK actor but has been unlucky/lucky enough to get a the part of the sidekick in the indy movie which garnered a lot of nerd rage and the staring role (for a human) in the transformer movies which garnered a lot of nerd rage.

Hey DIG, would you add the link to the original thread in your first post? I just think other people may want to have it available.

I don't think people liked the human characters in Transformers even when it was a cartoon.

I'm convinced that people hate Shia Labeuf for NO reason. I don't see anything at all unlikable about him. The extent to which he gets crap is unbelievable.

Eh. I like having human characters in Transformers. The Spike/Sam and Bumblebee thing is classic, and I approve of having military characters involved with the Autobot/Decepticon war, as it adds a layer of realism that I enjoy. Plus, I think Lennox was an awesome character.

Bumblebee, like the humans in G1 were useless and f***ing annoying. Bumblebee was nowhere near as annoying as G1 Wheelie was, though.

Y'know, I never considered Wheelie to be annoying. He wasn't my favorite character, sure, but I never had any ill-will towards him; I even liked him, in the old animated movie. His introduction scene with Grimlock still makes me laugh.

I've never understood the hate that the 2007 Transformers movie sometimes gets. People crap all over everything from Shia Labeuf (sp?) to the weak storylines, plotholes, continuity, etc. I've heard all sorts of complaints from people who seem to see the G1 cartoon run through rose-colored glasses.
I was (and still am) a HUGE fan of the G1 series. That being said, I fully acknowledge the fact that the G1 series was completely unrealistic (even for a cartoon about giant alien shapeshifting robots), had plotholes that Unicron could orbit through, and absolutely no continuity whatsoever. And the plots in most of the episodes were about 100X weaker than the 2007 movie.
Yet people still complained that the 2007 movie "ruined" the Transformers. And they're already crapping all over this one, and the damn thing isn't even out in the US yet. I just don't get it. I've always said that if you're looking for a cinematic masterpiece, then Transformers is NOT the movie for you. There ARE plotholes. The storyline IS kinda weak. It's NOT going to be this generation's "Gone with the Wind".
It's a popcorn flick. You go there to relive a bit of nostalgia, see awesome CGI effects, watch over-the-top explosions, and check out Megan Fox's incredible body. If you're going there expecting anything more than that, you're going to be disappointed.
I fully expect to take my son (who's 9th b-day happens to be the same day the film is being released) to this movie so we can both be kids for a couple of hours. And as long as I get treated to the same level of explosions, CGI, campy storylines, and Megan Fox, I'll consider it 20 bucks well spent.
Just had to get that out there.

I don't like the "it's a popcorn movie" argument. Mainly because it's possible to have some effects heavy blockbusters that are excellent films with a great screenplay that have excellent effects. Terminator 2 was a typical blockbuster with awesome effects and explosions. Yet it was an excellent film in which you needed to pay attention to the plot. This year's Star Trek was a typical blockbuster with awesome effects and explosions but again it was an excellent film you needed to pay attention to the plot. There are several others that fit into this category IMO, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, X Men 2 and Harry Potter 3 are just a few off the top off my head. I'd even throw the first Transformers film into that list. The days of "check your brain at the door and just enjoy the effects" are behind us. People still want blockbusters with explosions and effects but they want good plots and performances as well.

just got in from watching it, and it's a really good show. it's a lot funnier than i thought it would be, has some pretty good action, and there are some pretty cool robotic fatalities. Devestator looks just awesome (especially his testicles), and there was a bit more conversation between the robots, particularly on the decepticon side which the first movie lacked....
but hey.... there is always something to complain about....... there is very little character development in it in terms of the autobots... Arcee has one friggin line, and apart from Prime, Bumblebee and the twins (who are all kinds of awesome by the way) most of the other autobots do very little.....
in saying that, if you liked the first one, i think this is better, even with my minor quams, so it won't disappoint. good stuff. Wont say too much more until everyone else gets a chance to catch it.
