RIP though I kinda feel embarrassed. Was getting him confused with John Landis for a second.

I didn't much care for his films, but that doesn't diminish the fact that he was great at what he did. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans.

RIP. What makes me sad is the last movie he helped make was Drillbit Taylor. Wish he could have gone out on a higher note.

I literally grew up watching his movies, many of which were some of my all time favorites. John is true legend in my eyes, and it is beyond sad to see him go.
RIP JOHN!! WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!!

Damn, that's a pretty big deal. He could nearly do no wrong, it seemed.
Rest in peace.

This is horrible.
My most prized posession was given to me by John Hughes.
When I was 9 I wrote John Hughes a letter following Home Alone, telling him how I much wanted to be an actor and how I thought they should make a sequel to Home Alone, where Kevin's neighbor gets left home alone and the robbers try to break into his house but he defeats them with Maculay Culken's help. (I was 9).
The thing is, John Hughes wrote me back. He sent a handwritten letter to me telling me to never give up on my dreams and that I was creative and I should always stay that way.
I always hoped one day when I was more successful as an actor that I'd have the opportunity to thank him in person.
And he sent me a Home Alone baseball cap.
What a great guy. Thank you for inspiring 9 year old Kenton, and may you RIP.

When Brian Williams started the story on this, the name didn't register at first. Probably shock.
This is sad

Such a bummer. Hughes made some of the best and most iconic movies in recent history.

Horrible news. He gave us so many 80s and early 90s film icons. A true great cinematic mind.

Wow...
What on earth is up with this summer? Just came home from celebrating my fiance's birthday to the news and I was shocked. Only 56 and gone to a heart attack.
I must be one of three people on the planet who has never seen Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles, but Fenris Buller and Planes, Trains and Automobiles are two favorites of mine. I think Planes... is actually due to have a special edition DVD in a few weeks, the special "Those aren't pillows!" edition.
Swear on my life.
R.I.P. John. Made some great ones.
