Wow... What on earth is up with this summer? Just came home from celebrating my fiance's birthday to the news and I was shocked. Only 56 and gone to a heart attack. I must be one of three people on the planet who has never seen Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles, but Fenris Buller and Planes, Trains and Automobiles are two favorites of mine. I think Planes... is actually due to have a special edition DVD in a few weeks, the special "Those aren't pillows!" edition. Swear on my life. R.I.P. John. Made some great ones. You can freely skip 16 Candles, but you might like Breakfast Club.

Damn... another talent taken too soon.
I just heard on TV it was a heart attack while walking his dog.
"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and "Uncle Buck" are personal favorites... loved playing those movies at work. Everybody would stop and laugh at the funny bits before going back to rent their movies.
Rest in peace, sir.

R.I.P. to one of the best. Your movies were great, and they always cheered me up (for the most part). You will be missed.

RIP and I like a lot of his films, but I always hated the Breakfast Club and thought it was overrated.

R.I.P.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles & Uncle Buck were 2 of my favourite movies ever. Hughes worked a dream with Candy, i could watch any film with them in it. Really good memories of Home Alone too, and seeing it in the cinema. I was surprised he sort of left movie directing after the early 90's, but still will be much missed.

My family has watched Planes... every Thanksgiving for at least 15 years, because it was shot in part in my home town. This year will be meloncoly with John Hughes passing. His movies were just so Chicago and spoke of a time and place. While both of those things never really existed it didn't matter, they just ruled.
