True. But it seems like it would have been easier to just bill him from just plain Ireland and avoid the possible controversy. But maybe he wanted to be billed from Belfast, so whatever. What if he was an an Ulster Protestant how insulting would that have been to him to say he was from the South. Yeah...never mind the fact that a full third of Ulster IS in "the South". You might want to keep the "Ulster Protestant" thing out of the discussions, political stuff gets heatz around here. Finlay IS nominally a protestant, but had absolutely no beef with having the Irish tricolour shown in his entrance vid. Even though he was walking around Carrickfergus (where he's non-kayfabe from).

90% of the entire WORLD Wrestling Entertainment roster are american and we're complaining that there's TWO Irish people who aren't even from the same country?

For pity's sake, people, I'm not complaining. I don't have a problem with it. I just found it surprising because I figured WWE would consider their gimmicks too similar.

none of the hart foundation or 93 team are still employees are they?
and is DJ Gabriel still an ECW member? that makes four english if so.
the only way i can see crossover is if the commentators keep using the word "celtic", what with Celtic Cross being the name of Finlays finisher

Finlay is a guy who enjoys fighting and sheamus is a tradition gaelic irish...person who has no actual gimmick.

Whatever the bearing of Finlay using the tricolour at times and whether he loves it, hates it or doesn't give a damn as long as WWE pay him it has no bearing on his character on TV so honestly, that area of discussion seems needlessly political even in passing.
Finlay uses Celtic symbols and calls himself Irish. When he does as such, he's most likely identifying himself with the island as a whole, not bring up political sentiments.

Actually, this discussion illustrates why I would have assumed they'd want to dodge the issue and not mention Northern Ireland.

Actually, this discussion illustrates why I would have assumed they'd want to dodge the issue and not mention Northern Ireland. But it doesn't, because in all the years in WWE he's been billed from there, it hasn't affected him one bit. It's only us dolts on the internet who it seems to affect.

Ok, let's cut the political part here.(I know some of you have been resisting talking about it, thanks.)You can discuss the fact that they're from Ireland all you want, but that's about as far as that goes ok?

Irish Overload sounds like something you get after drinking a mixture of Guinness,Leprechaun blood,a Shamrock shake, and potatoes.

I know you meant Republic, because ALL of Ulster is in the geographical North, whereas a third of it is in the Irish Republic. I wasn't accusing you of starting any political discussion, I was just asking you to go easy with the "Ulster Protestant" stuff, as that was the dodgiest (i.e. most overtly political) thing posted so far. Just trying to do you a good turn...

I'd like to see Finlay and Regal work a program together, as either partners or rivals. I wouldn't mind seeing Sheamus a part of it as well.

I can still remember WM7 and the rather tastless Gulf war thing he was doing. Complete with Hogan coming to the ring with a big American flag and matching bandanna

All I said was that it seemed odd to me that WWE would want two guys with such similar niche gimmicks. What I found odd is that the WWE missed the opportunity of pairing these guys up. By shippng Finlay to Smackdown. Finlay being a mentor to Sheamus would have been great. A feud with a british stable of (Regal,Burchill,Katie Lea, Gabriel) would have been better.
