All I said was that it seemed odd to me that WWE would want two guys with such similar niche gimmicks. What I found odd is that the WWE missed the opportunity of pairing these guys up. By shippng Finlay to Smackdown. Finlay being a mentor to Sheamus would have been great. Nah. Enough of the "Everybody who happens to be the same nationality/ethnicity must become a faction" thing. We don't need a new Nation (despite people on this board always coming up with ideas for one) or Team Canada.

Yeah, so they are both from Ireland. So what? Sheamus has a very distinctive look and its not like the gimmicks are so alike that it would hurt either of them.

Only thing I"ll ask is if the two ever do have a program, will WWE even mention the possible political aspects

Under this logic we now have Regal and Burchill on ECW so now we have two English guys, plus DJ Gabriel whenever he reappears on ECW.

I think with one match and 40 seconds of promo under Sheamus belt, it's difficult to tell. If Sheamus ends up some uber-Irish nationalist who talks down on the fans, his gimmick will be completely different than Finlay's. I'd mark out. He could bring in a stable to mimic the Irish Republican Army. Of course, the fans would have no clue what it was about.

By shippng Finlay to Smackdown. Finlay being a mentor to Sheamus would have been great. A feud with a british stable of (Regal,Burchill,Katie Lea, Gabriel) would have been better. It's possible Finlay was moved to specifically avoid any comparison from being on the same show if They had no plans to pair them. Finlay's gimmick is that he "loves to fight." Being Irish is just incidental to his character. Is it, though? "The fighting Irishman." Finlay's nationality is brought up more than any other wrestler/character by commentators. Probably every match if someone counted. Course, it could be because Vince McMahon thinks he's Irish and staff are encouraged to do so. Wish I could remember what Al Snow said on Tough Enough to one guy about it.

Please, dear God, can we somehow have Finlay and Sheamus vs Regal and Burchill in some way, shape or form? Nothing political or anything like that, just four blokes who don't mind knocking lumps out of each other trying to prove their worth. That would rule all.

I am not so sure about this one, as in Ireland, there is more of a feeling that there needs to be unity, so if there was to be a political lean to it, it would be better for SOS and Finlay to feud with Regal and Burchill.

Nevermind that there's several guys that come in from Canada or elsewhere in the country But none have "being Canadian" as their gimmick. Regal just moved to ECW, and none of those three have done much of anything recently. And I never said I was annoyed. All I said was that it seemed odd to me that WWE would want two guys with such similar niche gimmicks. Being Irish isn't a "niche gimmick". It's a nationality (well, two to be precise). Whatever the bearing of Finlay using the tricolour at times and whether he loves it, hates it or doesn't give a damn as long as WWE pay him it has no bearing on his character on TV so honestly, that area of discussion seems needlessly political even in passing. Finlay uses Celtic symbols and calls himself Irish. When he does as such, he's most likely identifying himself with the island as a whole, not bring up political sentiments. Kofi Kingston uses lots of Jamaican imagery, and he's from Ghana. All I said was that it seemed odd to me that WWE would want two guys with such similar niche gimmicks. What I found odd is that the WWE missed the opportunity of pairing these guys up. By shippng Finlay to Smackdown. Finlay being a mentor to Sheamus would have been great. A feud with a british stable of (Regal,Burchill,Katie Lea, Gabriel) would have been better. It's difficult to answer this without straying into politics, but I'll try - a lot of people from Finlay's area of Northern Ireland, would idenify him a lot more with the English stable, than soimeone from the Republic of Ireland. Agreed. Only thing I"ll ask is if the two ever do have a program, will WWE even mention the possible political aspects No. Or at least, I hope not. It's a minefield to describe correctly. I think with one match and 40 seconds of promo under Sheamus belt, it's difficult to tell. If Sheamus ends up some uber-Irish nationalist who talks down on the fans, his gimmick will be completely different than Finlay's. I'd mark out. Those fans that would have a clue, would find it as asinine as the 7/7 terrorist angle.

I wouldn't want to see Sheamus going Muhammad Hassan Take Two on us. How about it just being a part of his gimmick without stirring up needless trouble?
Even when Regal and Finlay wrestled the references were far and few between (from JBL and they were of the vague "It's Ireland and England! Don't fight now, guys!") and never formed the basis for their matches.

With the tendency to team wrestlers of the same nationality, just once I'd like to see some odd segment with the two of them.
Sheamus and Finlay sit backstage. There's an awkward silence.
Sheamus: So... you're from Northern Ireland are you.
Finlay: Yeah.
Sheamus:... That's nice. Have some relatives there.
Finlay: See them often, do ya?
Sheamus: Not really, no.
*more silence*
Sheamus: Ever visit The Republic of Ireland?
Finlay: 'Wrestled there on occasion.
Sheamus: Oh, so you've seen a lot of the area.
Finlay: Eh, not really, with the schedule, I never really got the chance.
Sheamus: Ah.
*the two avoid eye contact until the camera cuts away*
