I want to send out a resounding thank you to every one of you who sent a list this week, and that is a LOT of thank yous. We easily broke the past record for total lists received on this one, possibly even doubling up the old standard. I'll have a total tally at the end of this countdown, but trust me when I say it's a ton. Glad to see participation is high so far. One down, seven to go.
This week was the week to honor the performers who were just a cut above in the last calendar year. The ones whose matches captivated, whose promos spoke to us, and whose overall performance was worthy of accolades.
Here was the brand by brand breakdown of the final 20:
Raw - 8 ECW - 3 Smackdown - 9
(Brand represented is the one the superstar is currently on or was last seen on.)
The countdown will begin tomorrow around noon and continue on throughout the day of basketball and college football championship games. Watch your sports, watch your countdown, have a great Saturday!
Here are the folks who just missed being one of the 20 represented in the final countdown:
21) Yoshi Tatsu
22) Finlay
23) Evan Bourne
24) The Hurricane
25) Mark Henry
26) Shelton Benjamin
27) THE Brian Kendrick
28) Sheamus
29) Matt Hardy
30) MVP
31) Scotty Goldman
32) Paul Burchill
33) Batista
34) Kane
35) Mickie James
36) Natalya Neinhart
37) Tommy Dreamer
38) Cody Rhodes
39) Santino Marella

While he didn't receive any votes, there's no way he's not getting mention today. Consider him a special write in. Really nice touch MGH. I really loved his three matches he had against CM Punk this year, especially the SD before Extreme Rules and his SD match with John Morrison. He made both of those stars look like a million bucks and they were some of the best matches I've seen this year.
Also my top ten still haven't been mentioned yet.

This may be the only place where Scotty Goldman gets more votes than Batista. ;D

What do ya say we get things rolling here? Our #20 didn't have a year long impact, but his brief stint back in the ring brought back some great nostalgic memories for fans everywhere. This wasn't just a nostalgia return however. He came out and put on a set of performances that stunned many, proving that it isn't the age that matters, but the work ethic. Coming in at #20 is.. #20Total Points: 8Ricky Steamboat

Our #19 has an odd name to thank for his success this year. Donald Trump put together a 15 superstar trade in his short time in charge of Raw, and it sent this man to ECW. His career was seemingly reborn on the brand, finding his way to the main event and coming within an eye lash of becoming champion more than once. That man is... #19Total Points: 12William RegalNotable FeudsCM Punk Christian Notable MatchesNo Disqualification/No Countout Intercontinental Championship Match: William Regal(c) vs. CM Punk - Raw 1/19/09 ECW Championship: Christian(c) vs. William Regal - Breaking Point 2009 ECW Championship: Christian(c) vs. William Regal - ECW on SyFy 11/10/09 ChampionshipsIntercontinental Championship (11/10/08 - 1/19/09)

#18 is a familiar face to some, having been featured on WWE television since late 2005. He left that previous life behind and returned to the main roster as a cocky, self absorbed athlete with the skills to back it up. He worked his way to in championship contention in the Summer and had many opportunities, but he just hasn't been able to get over that hurdle yet. #17 is another superstar who was originally part of a tag team that split and went their own ways. He re-emerged on the ECW brand and brought crowds to a stunned silence with his music and attitude. He had a cup of coffee with the main event, and now waits to see when his next big break will be.
