I saw it yesterday, and it was good. There were some parts that kinda dragged on, but when things picked up, it really started to shine. It's my third favorite movie of the summer, behind G.I. Joe and Star Trek. Go see District 9, you won't regret it.

I saw it opening day. It was alright; the beginning wasn't what I expected, and kinda bored me, but things got good once it started to pick up. I have to agree with that the beginning was alittle slow (of course it was hard to get in it because the people that sat by me were kind of jerks, but luckily they left), but once the action got going, it was a really fun film. I really liked it and plan on picking it up when it comes out on DVD.

I saw it, and I'm still not sure what to think of it. I liked it well enough, but I dunno, just left an annoying plotholed taste in my mouth.
SPOILERS Still Pig and Magnet Gun FTW. SPOILERS

GREAT GREAT GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it was slow in the beginning. But things really picked up about a third of the way in. And I love how it ended. I'm tired of Hollywood spoonfeeding the audience, and Peter Jackson did a great job of wrapping things up.
Also, I've never heard a character in any move say F*** as much as this guy.

I keep hearing people say the first part of the film was slow. I thought just the opposite. I was intrigued the whole first act of the film. Learning about the whole situation and seeing how the MNU agents dealt with the Prawns. Then towards the last act, the action scenes seemed a little drawn out and I felt at least 5 or 6 minutes could have been cut out of it, but still very interesting. I do agree that the film was wrapped up perfectly, though. I read an interview somewhere where Jackson said he'd love to visit the world again. And with the way the film ended, he definitely could.

Just watched it last night.
I agree with a lot of the people here who say its one of the best of the year thus far. It was damn good and I hope a lot of people see it.
The beginning didn't seem slow to me - I actually liked it more than the end. The "me and my alien buddy" thing was done pretty well too - which is hard to get right. The stuff at the end with the huge fight scene was really cool, but kind of took me out of the movie.
SPOILERS BELOW \/ \/ \/
Sometimes special effects can be over done. Like when he was fighting in the robot - the whole time I kept hearing the Iron Man theme in my head. It also looked like an alien version of ED-209. It was all very cool though.
The scene that really got me was when they were making him test the alien weapons and they brought out the prawn to the firing range and the main guy was like, "Aw, come on, don't make me shoot the guy. I'll shoot the pig, he's just a guy!" After the cattle prodding and everything else the guy had gone through - that almost made me tear up.
Plus the lead actor had one of the MOST convincing transitions from nerd-to-badass that I've ever seen.
I think its a good blend of action and drama and sci-fi that will help bridge the gap for future sci-fi films.
Though - expect to see about a dozen more films with The Office/Aliens type style now that this one was so well recieved.

I'm in the minority here kids, so fire the cannons and truskets when the post is done... here is my take...
... I thought this film was draggy, made almost no sense, and if this was handled a little bit differently in terms of plot direction, only then would it have gotten a higher score. The main character was also annoying as hell, and though I sympathized with the aliens, I hated the human characters, and not in a they're awesome as bad guys.
As much as I was impressed with the effects and how low the budget was, I was just not impressed with this movie and wanted my money back halfway through.
Now back to the praising by the other 99.2%...

Another thing I'd like to know is why exactly the chemicals caused the guy to turn into an alien in the first place. As far as I could tell, that substance was only fuel for the ship.

Moral of the story: don't spill unleaded gasoline on an alien or they'll turn human.

Yeah, I didn't get that either. Maybe they explained it and I just missed it. And I don't get how he could fit perfectly in their ships and their ED-209 thingy when he was still mostly human, considering the Prawns have completely different body types.

I think the real question is why didn't they just kill all the humans.
1 million prawns with guns that make people explode, Ed109 robots and bomb making abilities - I'm pretty sure they could make us all into cat food.
