Gotta go with Dre here.....Foo Fighters had a great album, but The Chronic's influence is FAR more evident......I mean, it pretty much brought rap fully into the mainstream. Before The Chronic, rap was mostly played in special blocks (Yo MTV Raps) on MTV, afterwards.....MTV became 60% rap videos.

It's which album you like more.

Anyhoo, let's see who meets the Foos in the finals: vs. What an effing joke, Leave it to the Internet. For the last time, it's a purportless online tournament. It's all meant for good fun. It does not mean that whatever wins this tournament is the defining CD of the 90's. It just means it's a favorite among a small group of people. A small group in which all have differing opinions. Why is everybody taking this seriously?

I still stand by my comment, which isn't--by any means--a statement denoting that I'm "upset," which is further backed by the tag at the end.
In all fairness, I see where you're coming from because of the comments preceding this page. But nah, upset's not the word to describe my reaction.

People are getting way too worked up over this.
That being said, my vote goes to Dr. Dre. I don't feel a need to explain my reasoning.
To top off this thread on my part, here's my picks for my favorite albums of the 90's, in no particular order:
"Core"- Stone Temple Pilots "E. 1999 Eternal"- Bone Thugs N Harmony "Dookie"- Green Day "The Chronic"- Dr. Dre "All Eyez On Me"- 2Pac "Garage, Inc."- Metallica "The Blue Album"- Weezer "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"- Red Hot Chili Peppers "Use Your Illusion I & II"- Guns N Roses "It's Dark And Hell Is Hot"- DMX
Great job by Widow's Peak, this thread has kept me interested the whole way through. Keep up the good work, think we'll see any other "tournament voting" threads in the near future from you?

Yeah, actually, I want to say "Thanks" as well. No need to get totally caught up in the travesty at hand.
Widows Peak--you really are awesome for keeping up with this and being devoted. I cannot TELL you how much it ticks me off when a select few on these boards start up a bunch of stuff and seemingly never finish it. On top of that, the updates were Q-U-I-C-K!!! I'm floored by how on top of things you were throughout each round. Plus, I LOVED the setups to each round and the jokes you added in--they were all clever as could be. One of my favorite "tournament" type threads in a long while.
A couple of major botches on my part was not nominating Tuesday Night Music Club (Sheryl Crow) and I don't remember Purple even being in the tournament, but I may be wrong on that.
Widows Peak, if you ever start up another thread with continuity involved, hunt me down, even if it's over PM or something, because I'll be all over it. I enjoyed going head-to-head with you in the Wrestlecrap Idol, and the best I remember, I think you were in that trivia tournament that someone ran a year or so ago, and you were good in that too. I'm a fan, for sure.

Just curious. Any reason the 90's was chosen over any other decades?

Well, for my money, it's because the 90s are by far the best. 60s was a good decade as well, but 90s is THE music decade, I think. A LOT of variety and A LOT of influences that changed the face of the industry, or at least developed pieces of it beyond mediocrity. There were A TON of albums listed in Round 1 that I would not have been disappointed in in the least if they had advanced. Also, there were MANY albums that didn't even make the cut that are well-deserving (and a heck of a lot more deserving than some that were put in). There were even a lot of genres misrepresented that really shined during that decade as well. So, I guess what I'm saying is "Why the 90s?? More like why *not* the 90s?"

Dr. Dre. I enjoy both albums, but I'll go with The Chronic on this one.

If it was up to me RATM or Definitely Maybe would have won this thing but as it is I went with The Colour And The Shape, one of the most perfect hard rock albums I've ever heard.

Im wondering if anyone voted Dre, just so they can say they didnt vote the typical "rock > rap" stuff you see on internet message boards.
As for my vote: Foo Fighters. And I do actually like The Chronic, but 2001 is a better album...
(Oh and please dont come in (with regards to what I first said) with the "OH SO PEOPLE CANT HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS" stuff. I wasnt saying that. Was just a thought and its not that far of a reach to think that.)

Just curious. Any reason the 90's was chosen over any other decades? People tend to be a little more partial to the music of their high school/college years, so for me that was the 90s. You can find great stuff in every decade, but I have a lot of emotional attachment to the music of that period (even the stuff I thought was crap back then). Unemployment helps a lot in that respect. Seriously, thanks for the kind words guys. This was actually a lot of fun to do. Great job by Widow's Peak, this thread has kept me interested the whole way through. Keep up the good work, think we'll see any other "tournament voting" threads in the near future from you? Maybe. I'm starting up with work again soon, so I won't have quite as much free time (its hard to do the 3 A.M. updates when you have to be to work at 7:00), but I have a couple of ideas for future tournaments that I'd like to try. I'd also really like to do a music trivia quiz contest, but there are a couple of those going on right now so I think I'll wait a bit on that. There's less than 4 hours left and the contest is very tight right now. If you haven't voted yet, please vote!!

I like the way these tournament work out. They're not the "Best in the Whole Wide World" tournaments. They're "The Best in the Opinion of the Wrestlecrap Board Members." You get alot of varied responses. Just look at how different the top 2 choices are. And everyone can still comment on what they're personal choice would have been. Personally, my choice would have been Sublime's self titled album. For the finals, I voted for the Foo Fighters.
