Other then fan edits anyway which actually make the movie watchable. Legitimately though there's only the true theater version which is totally gutted and basically unwatchable and the terrible "Alan Smithee" extended version which does restore a ton of scenes but is a train wreak of bad editing and unfinished FX which again make it damn near unwatchable. And I have to wonder why, if anonymous fan editors can take whats available and make a half way decent production why can't some DVD/BlueRay company have the stones to do the same and take it to the next level by giving that version a touch up by adding the unfinished FX and cleaning up the restored cut footage. Who the Hell owns this movie these days? It's time for this sleeping movie to awaken dammit.

Never seen the fan edits but I've enjoyed every version I've seen. Guess not knowing the totality of the movie itself might be why I don't see the glaring flaws?
Still can't believe the Beast Rabban was also Bluto in Popeye.
Typecasting?

Dune lost $19 million dollars. Why would you touch that bomb?

Don't get me wrong I do like the movie as most people have seen it, but what's available to the buying public is not what it could and should be. What's out there is basically the Lord of the Rings trilogy if they cut out the Two Towers. Even if someone put out the Extended version with cleaned up editing and fixed FX I'd be happy.

I saw this in the theaters when it came out. I had no idea what was going on, but it sure was neat looking.

There isn't a good version because Dino DeLaurentiis when he bought the film rights to Dune, imagined it as being Star Wars, and well the book...isn't. And really, what did he expect when he hired David Lynch?
A total mess of a production, though I would like to see that fabled workprint edit of Lynch's.
