A Doll's House (1973) remade from the 1917 film probably had a more suitable character for the role of Nora and that is a really important portrayal since the play revolves around her.

The Fly. I found the original dull but loved the Goldblum version. I totally agree. The original Fly was crappy compared to the Goldblum version.

Would this include "re-imagining" or re-boots. Like Batman or Superman of the last few years? I prefer BaleBat series over first 4 films, though I love the Micheal Keaton ones. I don't really consider that a remake, as it's something different entirely with characters that greatly pre-date their movie versions. And the last superman was really part of the first film series, they just ignored the last two films of it.

Yeah, The Fly '86, I still can't watch that film for long. It combined a potent metaphor for dying with an unmatched ick factor. Even with the stupid pregnancy subplot, a very good film, as far as horror goes, and much better than cloth head.
I do think a remake of the Wizard of Oz would be worth it. The film was a heavy special effects piece, and would benefit from modern technology. Also, it doesn't have to be a musical.

Lord of the Rings and Return of the King.
Despite what the Nostalgia Critic said, it wasn't even close.

Jeremy Irons Lolita is way more like the book was originally then the original. Plus in the original Lola the underage girl Humbert was supposed to have the hots for looked to be his same age. I don't think they had the ability to go as far as they needed to to tell the story in the era of the original.

Ocean's Eleven is far superior to the rat pack original. The original was just Sinatra and his buddies walking around trying to look cool. Oh it's on now. Yes I loved the Clooney version. But The Rat Pack didn't have to "try" to "look cool" they defined cool. They had more cool on their pinky toe nails than all of us here do combined. I have to second Sandler's LONGEST YARD

One of the things about remakes is that the average person in many cases does not know that it's a remake. For example: Dawn of the Dead. I don't know how many times I've mentioned the movie to people who are not very into horror movies, and most have no clue that it's a remake. I've even gone out of my way to say "the original", and still get; "Yeah, that Disturbed song at the end is funny." Something I've noticed about the younger generation(warning: old guy rant-ish). Most of the people I speak to in their early 20's are completely unaware of anything that happened before their 10th birthday, despite having technology like the internet at their disposal their entire lives. I don't get it.
anyway, Fear and Loathing...is one million times better than Where the Buffalo roam. Even though Bill Murray was excellent in the original.

One that was released this year, My Bloody Valentine 3D. I thought it was better than the original.

Casino Royale(2006) > Casino Royale(1967) I wouldn't consider that a remake. Nor Carpenters The Thing. It's just two films that happen to share the same source material. I'd also put Burton's Willy Wonka along with the Gene Wilder version in this catagory too.

Akira/Ghost in the Shell > The Matrix movies
.....Ok, not a remake, but the inspiration is better than the product

Casino Royale(2006) > Casino Royale(1967) I wouldn't consider that a remake. Given the evil plot to take over the world in the original, it's safe to say the Daniel Craig one was not a remake
