Thus is the debate that we just barely avoided last year during the match featuring Cena's boner.
And I also don't see this as a burial, nor do I think losing just one match (much less, a high-profiled one) could hurt someone's career.

The math is as follows:
Trish is a legendary face, Mickie is current top face, Beth is the current top heel
Face + Face = limited interest
Face + Heel = more interest
If Mickie was the current Heel and Beth the top face, we'd probably see Trish vs Mickie, but that's not how it added up last night

Seriously. She's billed to be as strong in appearance as a man. She doesn't back down from them. She's the same height and weight as a former World Heavyweight Champion. And she loses quite cleanly to someone who hasn't stepped foot in a ring in how many years? No she lost to the most famous, popular and decorated wwe womens wrestler of the modern era. If Orton got pinned by a returning Rock, would he be Berried? no would he smurf. One Loss does not = Berried!~

I'll state the same thing I did last night:
Older wrestlers returning to "put over younger talent" isn't always the right thing to do.
Beth is about as over as a diva is going to get in the WWE. Her "second rate country" line probably generated just as much heat for her as a win vs. Trish would have. Simply put, Beth doesn't *need* to be put over by Trish.
Beth losing one match to what many consider to be the best and most over woman in the WWE in the past decade will mean absolutely NOTHING. At the very worst, she'll cut one promo or squash one diva and be right back to the position she was before.
What would a Beth win have accomplished? Absolutely nothing. She's already as over as she's going to get. What did a Trish win accomplish? It gave the fans a "feel good moment" and got a pretty good hometown pop. It will make people look forward to the next time she makes an appearance.
Do we really need Trish to fall in the "Hometown hero must lose!" cycle? Do we really need yet another legend to dust off on occasion and put on television for the sole purpose of jobbing?
I'll close with the same line I opened with: Putting over younger talent isn't always the right thing to do.

#2) If this was the first time that Beth had to lose and lose clean to someone small enough to be an appetizer, I wouldn't have even considered posting. But how many losses to Kelly Kelly? How many losses to Maria? She's made to "look tough" but she is (kayfabe) lower down the foodchain than Alicia Fox? I think that this is the first time Beth has lost (been pinned) completely clean. Kelly, Mickie, Maria and Candice have all pinned Beth in the past but Maria's win (singular) was due to interference, Kelly's were flukes or because of interference, Candice's were mostly promoted as flukes as were the majority of Mickie's (and the match the other week was after Beth had already won the Battle Royal so that was given as an excuse). Here Trish wrestled a well rested Beth and beat her 1-2-3 with the stratusfaction. No interference, no fluke, not because she was tired. She beat her completely clean. I'm not overally shocked that it was Trish who was the first to do this.

I'll give her credit where credits due in rising above where she was originally because she wanted to...but jesus. It gets ooolldddd seeing this happen, even after three years of her being relatively absent.
