And it makes absolute sense; the WWE is headquartered in CT and has a long standing history in New York, two decidedly "blue" states. It'd make sense that they'd want to make nice with the senators/reps from those states, who tend towards being Democratic most of the time. You guys are right. The whole thing about how she won't have a chance because WWE has given money to both parties is pretty weak if you think about it. The thing is, it's not. Primary voters are not the same crowd as general election voters. Primary voters tend to be the most dedicated, pick up on these things, and is one of the primary reasons populist candidates don't fare as well in local primaries versus national primaries. Lots of issues, including but not limited to voter fatigue and ease of voting contribute to why this is, why only the most dedicated members of the party turn out. In smaller states, primaries matter a great deal more, especially when a party feels it has an opportunity to pick up a big seat. Primary voters tend to pick the best mix of experience and party allegiance, often using their power and money as rewards for staying with the party so long. Knowing that at least three of her competitors have gigantic amounts of public funds and by her interview this morning, Linda faces a very rough road in the primary.

“Connecticut needs Linda McMahon,” said Lanny “The Genius” Poffo, who wrestled in the WWE in the 1980s and ‘90s. “She is the opposite of Nancy Pelosi.”
Poffo praised McMahon as a deficit hawk, as someone who would push Congress to balance the budget. “She’ll be something new in the Senate, someone who is very conscientious,” Poffo said.

The reason is because the network most likely to do this would be MSNBC. I'm sure MSNBC would have been all over it. Watch what you say. This thread was actually motoring along fine. We don't need petty insults like this.

We don't need petty insults like this. I didn't mean it as an insult. I just think that is what they would try to do if they weren't owned by the same company. Pretty much everyone knows that MSNBC is very liberal. That is no secret. Just the same as how everyone knows Fox News is very conservative. If you want a good example then I'll give you one. Al Franken. Fox News was all over him. It's the same thing. See now that was pretty moderate and unbiased right EDIT- now that i think of it Fox News would probably try to do the same thing to McMahon for her past WWE Attitude Era stuff yet MyNetworkTV which is the network that runs Smackdown in the U.S. is owned by Fox so they would look like hypocrites too if they tried to do that.

In other words, in the end this is all going to boil down to who Randy Savage supports.

Um, all that ANY candidate would need to do would be to wheel the ol' Katie Vick footage out and have an attack ad that says "Do you want the CEO of THIS company as your Senator?" Instant lose. She won't even make it past the primary. Its the most obvious attack tactic in the world, and any decent political consultant would use it. Hell, there's probably one looking through this post for ideas. Besides, when were the McMahons successful outside of wrestling again?

Although I think the news networks wuold be hesitant that wouldn't stop her opponents from trying to smear her by buying political ads.

Its much easier and more obvious than the stuff that politicians usually do to each other (i.e. going through everything from decades of voting records, society memberships, lobbying, even college essays). Linda has stepped into a whole new world of ugly. A world that, unlike WWE, she can't effectively control the messages of. Plenty of politicians (even ones who get elected multiple times!) are shocked at how difficult media "spin" and image are to control now. I wouldn't wish a political position in today's world on anyone, and Linda will soon find out that controlling what people think of you is MUCH harder than working in a company.

Instead of a debate, I can see Linda challenging her opponent to a Hell in a Cell match.
