So, I know it was brief when he attacked Miz to get his title back... which I loved, since for once it seems like Kofi actually cares about something and is getting a lil more edge to him, but what struck me is that he dropped his Jamaican accent after with the lil "Sup Josh?". You think WWE is trying to move him away from his generic Jamaican gimmmick?
edit:changed the title so the topic is a little clearer.

Aw man, I thought this was an announcement of a future guest host, and we were getting Kofi Annan.
I don't know that the WWE is planning to alter his gimmick, as it seems to be working pretty well as it is. He might have just dropped the accent by mistake.

How is the Jamaican gimmick generic? Isn't he the first Jamaican in wrestling for awhile?
I'd mark if this just kept going Next Week Kofi attacks Swagger while he's being interviewed by Matthews and say's Sup again
Than Swagger comes down during Kofi's match with Carlito and trys to take the title but Carlito hits from behind than takes the Title Next Week Josh interviews Carlito and watches as Kofi jumps him from behind Then Carlito tries to take the title agin but Masters takes it Next week Kofi jumps Masters than the belt is taken by Chavo

Well, I didn't mean generic in the sense that it's a common wrestling gimmick, more in that it's just "I'm Jamaican, I talk like miss Cleo and smile a lot", and that's all his character has ever really been, with no actual development or much motivation for what he does.

Kofi Kingston, the wrestler, is Jamaican. Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, the man who plays him, is Ghanian. So yes.

I find greatness in the lack of motivation. He's just chillin' and kickin' ass. Kind of like Carlito's initial run. In interviews he's got this laid back, nonchalant, yet upbeat demeanor. Like "this is my job, and doing it is awesome!". Then when his matches start, he's all excited and hyped up and all over the place. It's fantastic. That balance which, admittedly, not everyone can pull off, is part of what makes him entertaining for me. He's one of the few wrestlers who I don't feel needs to have an entertaining heel run to be WWE champion. He could do it right now. Someone just has to be really uncool to him for more than a week. Someone with a major belt. Like a heel Cena. Yes. . . just like a heel Cena. . .

To be honest, unless I've missed it, I've never heard Kofi talk on-air before (besides the "BOOM BOOM BOOM" thing). So the "Sup Josh" shocked me more that the guy was allowed to say two words (literally).

I want him to turn heel, reveal he's Ghanaian, and bring in Prince Nana as his manager.

I'd rather see a Ghanian gimmick than a Jamaican gimmick. He could be a heel and rant about how Ghana is the best and most stable African country and how it is much better than the US.

I want him to turn heel, reveal he's Ghanaian, and bring in Prince Nana as his manager. As insanely awesome as that idea is (it's been mentioned before and I love it), I'm actually happy with Kofi as he is. He's one of the only faces I really enjoy in that role. Even with his gimmick being as generic and one-note as it is, I don't find him bland or grating in any way. Faces that have that kind of appeal and are genuinely likeable are hard to find, especially these days when characters are allowed basically no edge and seem very restricted, so they'll likely keep Kofi face for as long as they possibly can. I don't think he's in career face territory (tenous phrase because you could easily argue that no-one actually is) like a Rey Mysterio or a Jeff Hardy though.

And then the US title is renamed as The Hardcore title. Then Lance Storm renames it "The Saskatchewan Hardcore International Title".
