I think it's 2-0 to Bret [Starrcade '99 & WCW Nitro wins).
Goldberg seemed to have no regard for Bret in those matches. He was so sloppy and of course ended Bret's career.

Sigh. Goldberg did not end Bret Hart's career. Yes, he gave Hart a concussion, but he wrestled several times with said concussion. He even did a hardcore match with Terry Funk which gave him another concussion. And THAT is what ended Bret HArt's career, not Goldbergs initial sidekick.

Goldberg never beat Bret in a match which says a lot because Goldberg beat many big names. I thought these two superstars worked very well together. Yes Goldberg ended his career but mistakes happen.

GOLDBERG DID NOT END BRET's CAREER!!!!
If BRET HART had gotten himself checked out properly after his match against GOLDBERG and not had SEVERAL matches following that one while working with mounting concussions....he MIGHT have lasted logner.
ONCE AGAIN......BRET. SCREWED. BRET.

Bret pins Goldberg on Nitro in March 1999 after he spears Bret's disguised metal chestplate = Bret 1-0 Golderg
Bret pins Goldberg in WCW World title tournament (and takes his U.S. title) in November 1999 = Bret 2-0 Goldberg
Bret "submits" Goldberg at Starrcade 1999 = Bret 3-0 Goldberg
Bret pins Goldberg on the next Nitro in a World Title re-match after Nash and Hall interfere = Bret 4-0 Goldberg
I've also got a vague WCW memory of Bret laying out Goldberg in the desert with a shovel? This was after Bret had retired from in-ring competition. Anyway, in kayfabe, Goldberg was pretty much repeatedly owned by Bret, not the kind of face/heel booking you'd see today.

Only when it;s a wrestler the net fans don.;t like somehow it;s the other wrestlers fault. Bret didn;t get himself checked out and that;s the risk you take in any sport injury. You could argue that Bret Hart ended his own career by even being in the ring because injury's happen.

If Bret did not get hurt when he did I feel Bret & Goldberg would had gone onto doing so much more work together.

I doubt it....that would have meant WCW was booking things in a reasonable and consistent manner. My guess is that if Bret didn't get injured, he would have been placed in a feud with Vince Russo's mom.

Bret makes it clear in his book that the concussion he sustained from Goldberg caused a hole in the back of his head or something. He makes it clear anyway that it was the main reason for his retirement and possibly the stroke later on. He does admit he didnt know it was that bad at the time, and just took loads of painkillers that did nothing, but he blames wcw for not checking his injury out properly and alllowing him to continue wrestling after the accident. He himself is propbably just as much to blame for carrying on afterwards but how was he to know the extent of the injury? Put it down to ignorance on the part of both parties yes but Goldberg's mule kick certainly did the initial, and lasting, damage

Bret / Russo would had been interesting but I feel WCW could have really set up the first Goldberg vs Bret match as a huge deal but they dropped the ball.

Comes down to personnel responsibility on Bret's part IMO at the end of the day and accidents happen in all sports (and walks of life) including wrestling.

Does anyone feel when Bret first joined WCW should he had worked with Goldberg right away? You know calling out the best?

By Dec '97, Goldberg was still wrestling jobbers and guys like Mongo though.
I think Bret should've feuded (much longer) with Flair, and been around for a face-face angle against Sting. I don't think Bret should've been a heel in WCW until much much later on.

If Bret could have beat Flair & Sting in long term feuds and then worked with Goldberg man would have been huge.
