The TV Networks really sucked this year for Halloween movies. Not only did they not really get into showing alot of horror movies till the actual last couple days before Halloween (I remember in 06, alot of them showed them all week), but today they seemed to be playing the same stuff over and over.
AMC has showed Night Of The Living Dead 4 times in a row! I love the movie but come on. Couldnt they have at least showed the original, 90 version, and one of the re-edited versions that came out this decade?
Chiller has showed Bram Stokers Dracula, like, 3 times in a row. Another channel ran Hannibal at least twice in a row. Another one I saw has had 'The Mummy' at least 3 times, back to back to back.
FMC has ran the entire series of Planet Of The Apes, the entire weekend, and is continuing to till tomorrow.
Oh and would it have killed Comedy Central to run Shaun Of The Dead at night? So they wouldnt have to cut it down and censor it?
Also I know the movie networks never really change their line up to fit whatever Holiday is around, but they could at least do it at Halloween. Theirs an endless selection of horror movies.
So, uh...yeah. This sucks...

TNT showed Ocean's Eleven.
USA had a NCIS Marathon.
IFC which has shown Pumpkinhead, Halloween, Eaten Alive, Motel Hell, Coffin Joe films, and other assorted Horror only showed GINGER SNAPS today and tonight showed a Monty Python documentary.
So...yeah, it wasn't very good this year.

You'd think at least Chiller would have more to offer. I mean for f***'s sakes, the channel is ALL HORROR ALL THE TIME! Ok not ALWAYS horror, sometimes thrillers too, but still!

Sometimes I feel like Halloween is a dying holiday as more and more cable channels sell out to the mainstream.

TCM was atleast on the right track by showing a lot of the horror movies from the "Golden Age" of film, I think they even ran 5 straight hours of Boris Karloff movies. But come on, no Dracula (Lugosi), Frankenstein (Karloff), or any of the Edgar Allan Poe movies? I was atleast happy to see they showed Nosferatu.
But yeah, BIG lack of horror movies on TV this year. Instead of running the original Night of the Living Dead (which I like) for a bunch of a hours back to back, they could have showed something a little different. What's with the laziness with the certain movie blocks lately?
Also, Ginger Snaps was actually rather funny (in that weird kind of way), but I would have preferred to see some of the Coffin Joe films on Halloween rather than...Monty Python?

The Halloween programming was pretty much hit or miss this year, but I did like that FX reran "Da Maniac" episode of "It's Always Sunny...".

I think I saw the first showing of Night of The Living Dead on AMC at like, 4 P.M. Its still on at 1:30 A.M.
One thing that really sucked too was that AMC (I think) usually shows all the Halloweens (pre-reboot) in a row. They ran the first one, the fourth one, and the fifth one this year. This sucks...

Night Of The Living Dead is public domain, so maybe it's a budgetary thing. Still, AMC used to be awesome in the week up to Halloween, so it's a bit of a cop-out.
There wasn't even a live Ghost Hunters tonight, which, while boring as sin, always provided for good background viewing. Plus, with an extra hour tonight, they could have had an extended version.

Yeah. What the hell was that shit they tried to pull?! They opted to instead give the main focus to the top 5 fan favorite scariest episodes. And they didn't even do the FULL episodes! They showed basically just the "evidence". Most of the time I was watching, they had the actual live show just in the background. You had to watch the live feed of the cameras online to get the true show..... Lame. On the plus side, tomorrow, I plan on making up for this year's suckage. I have a twin pack DVD of Friday the Thirteenth and Halloween(the originals) plus an Alfred Hitchcock anthology collection on DVD. Oh hell yeah.

Yeah, even if Jason and Grant didn't want to do one this year, they now have THREE Ghost Hunting shows with a myriad of investigators and crew, and they have the Destination Truth team, which I think would make for a more lively live show... instead of hunting ghosts, send that group off on some cryptozoological adventure.
The Travel Channel sometimes has some good "true life" documentaries, but not this year. They mostly aired special after special about Halloween attractions (i.e. bad actors jumping out at people). Really?
I don't know. Maybe it's the result of Halloween being on a Saturday that led to the networks and cable channels not wanting to put any effort into it this year.

Not to mention that ABC Family showed the Burton Batman trilogy (ok, forever isnt a burton film but still,,), despite showing stuff like It and Misery in previous years.

Why would anyone want to watch a horror marathon on tv anyways? They're often cut, loaded with commercials, censored (unless you are watching a specialty channel). I'd rather pop in some DVDs and create my own marathon.

I'd rather pop in some DVDs and create my own marathon. All true, but I for one LOVE watching horror movies on television. I thnk it's just the knowledge that somebody else, somewhere, is watching the same stupid movie at the same time that I am. It's just that little bit of shared experience that makes it for me. And the marathons sucked this year, by the way. A few years back MonsterFest was must-see TV - now, not so much.

To be fair Halloween is a key plot point in Batman Forever...so I say it should be considered a Halloween movie. As should Batman Returns be considered a Christmas movie... And Die-Hard 2 should be a Christmas movie... And Crash should be a Christmas movie........I'll stop now

WGN showed Jason X last night. The one Friday the 13th they should happen to show, and it is arguably the worst of the lot.

Eh, I just threw in The Last Man on Earth on the 30th.
I was gonna rewatch Land of the Dead yesterday, but instead opted to throw in Tank Girl since I picked it up a few days ago.

Well over in the UK it wasn't much better.
We got the premiere of Saw V, Nosferatu was on Sky Arts, Channel 4 showed a Korean Horror movie, THe Host at 11pmand BBC 2 ran Halloween 1 & 2 back to back from 11:20pm to 2:20am unedited.
And that was it.
