Orlando Predators once again get beaten by the Jacksonville Sharks and are out of the playoffs. The Sharks seem to get dangerous when it becomes the playoffs. Granted, I feel that it should've just been Philly v. Orlando, and Arizona v. LA for the Conference Championships. No reason a 2-14 team or a 3-13 team should be in the playoffs. It'd be an interesting story if one of them won the whole thing, but the way Arizona is playing, I see Portland getting run out of the playoffs, and quite possibly, out of the AFL.

And the AFL Conference Championships are set. The Jacksonville Sharks, who upset the no. 2 seed Orlando Predators in OT, 69-68, will travel North to face the no. 1 seed, Philadelphia Soul, after their win over the Tampa Bay Storm, 63-41, in the American Conference Championship.
The Cleveland Gladiators move on after their win over the no. 2 seed LA Kiss, 56-52, and head out West again to face the no. 1 seed Arizona Rattlers, who dominated the Portland Steel, 84-40, for the National Conference Championship.

Two things of note;
1. Glad the LA KISS lost, as usual. 2. Would be an embarrassment to the league if a 2-14 team wins the championship.

Granted, I haven't followed a team since both Dallas and Chicago folded. 2. Fortunately, don't have to worry about that anymore. Worst record is 7-9 to win it now (either Jacksonville or Cleveland). And the Rush did that already 10 years ago.

Arena Bowl XXIX will be Philadelphia vs. Arizona.
Perhaps the last one?
Also, Dayton has been added to ADL. Hoping the Florida Tarpons join soon.

And the Philadelphia Soul defeat the Arizona Rattlers, 56-42, to win their second Arena Bowl title.

Ron Jaworski on the State of the AFL right now. My response to Mr. Jaworski? So, where did he have an outlet to call former owners turds? Ultimately, the league is dying because Butera and the couple putzes before him aren't fit to run a lemonade stand.

Soul's Ron Jaworski optimistic of Arena Football League's futureI'm betting he's talking mainly about Spokane and Iowa, who opted out of the league and went to the IFL due to smaller expense budget reasons. And Spokane basically called out the AFL last year because of San Jose's shenanigans that were going on during the season.

I kind of remember something, either a Spygate deal, or someone's contract. San Jose pulled out because of Butera's management, basically asking them to support all the struggling owners and shoulder most of the costs.

Yeah. It'll take at least 2 or 3 of the teams going defunct for this league to be finished.
Washington is essentially replacing Portland, and there's problems with LA & Orlando.
Sort of TNA logic here because at one point the league had 20 teams and a secondary league.

Sort of TNA logic here because at one point the league had 20 teams and a secondary league. I think the problems started to show in the early to mid 2000's. With all the celebrity owners left and right, money was just getting tossed around all over when it shouldn't have been, causing the league to finally collapse in 2008. It doesn't surprise me that the LA Kiss may go down, as I felt this was just another cash grab for Gene and Paul, and they'll hit the road when the money runs dry completely. And from what I've heard, Arizona was rumored to have applied to the IFL for membership. Orlando going down would suck, because besides the Tampa Bay Storm, they've been the only team that's been around since the early 90's. Unless you count Cleveland.

You seem to be the resident expert on all things arena football. Why is the AFL folding? And whats the difference between these leagues? I don't know if I'd consider myself an expert, but I'll give it a shot. The AFL plays a style that's more pass friendly. Not much running in the AFL. A lot more man-to-man coverage in the AFL as well, which leads to guys getting open more often. Plus, in the AFL, only one guy can be in forward motion towards the line of scrimmage prior to the snap. Also, the AFL uses the rebound nets on the goal posts, and any ball played off those nets is live. The IFL and CIF are more like the traditional outdoor version of the game. A lot more running plays, and a lot friendlier for the defense, as usually there's two linebackers in the AFL, I think the IFL you can have one. Also, there can be up to two guys in forward motion towards the line of scrimmage prior to the snap. Plus, you see the quarterback in shotgun formation more in the IFL and CIF, where as in the AFL, they're mainly under center. Also, no rebound nets. A missed FG will come out to the 5-yard line, and kickoffs can either be at the 5 or the 20, depending on the situation. Also, the QBs in the IFL and CIF are more mobile, as they get a lot of rushing yards, where as in the AFL, they're more pocket passers. The AFL is dying a painful death because of the incompetence of the staff who run the league, plus the fact that the sport is a money pit, and seems to bring in the sleaziest of the sleazy. The league had to suspend operations back in 2009 because it was losing too much money then. They brought it back in 2010 and tried to have a different business model to work off of. It started out fine, but as the years went on, it just wasn't working. The league started out strong, as they had 15 teams in 2010, 18 in 2011, and 17 in 2012. But the numbers dwindled, and now only about 4 teams will be left. The Orlando Predators were in financial trouble a couple years back, and only survived due to new ownership. Fees and expenses were just too much for other teams, and some moved to other leagues just so they could survive. The Iowa Barnstormers, the Spokane Empire (formerly the Spokane Shock), and the Green Bay Blizzard are all former AFL/af2 teams that are in the IFL. It was a bad omen when the 2015 ArenaBowl Champions, the San Jose Sabercats, folded after winning the title.
