Maybe she didn't hear her dean's graduation speech. Ours basically said (at least the parts I heard walking by), you've graduated in a recession, there aren't any jobs out there, it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon, you are all screwed for the next few years. It was really uplifting.
Obviously, for the sake of education, she can't win. It'd be idiotic if she did win. But, I do hope this causes a lot of dialogue about the current state of North America's educational system. There needs to be a lot of change to happen.
Unless her school guaranteed 100% of their graduates find work in their field, and if you don't, you get your money back, she can't win. Course, she should have to pay the school another 70K if that was the case, for being really stupid.

USA! USA! USA!
1/2 of me says "wah." Burger King's usually hiring, and the only thing they ask is that you be proficient enough to ride your bike to the bus stop.
The other half says why are there no jobs? The appeal of college was always the potential options it would offer you. So very many irrelevant majors out there these days.
It's all on the individual here though. If you need work, you take a job. The exact thing you want often isn't out there, regardless of what you know. 3 months? Yeah... I'll bet this person applied for a maximum of ten jobs during this time. Go the snork home.

As incredibly stupid as this seems, this pretty much sums up the uselessness of getting degrees. This is the point I was coming in here to make. Yes, suing a school because you can't find a job is a little much, but I look at post-secondary education as more of a business than as a step in life. I will be thousands of dollars in debt for the next 7-10 years of my life because I was forced to take a student loan in order to obtain a piece of paper that says I can do something. And in today's world even that piece of paper means little. Which is why I really don't want to go back to school. At the same time, that is taking a gamble with my future career which is, in turn, taking a gamble with my financial life.

So this is that "Generation Obama" we've been hearing so much about? First of all, there is only one Generation O;
And second, do what normal people do. Scream at the underpaid work study who was hired to call alumni for money during fundraisers. Gosh, I mean, of course your college isn't going to care as much as you do about your job search. It's your job search.
Does anyone have a Pai Mei "Stupid American Woman" gif?

Maybe she's spoiled because she's gotten offers that are outside of her major and she felt she was "too good" to take them?
I see people do this all the time. They're sitting around, waiting for that $32k a year job to fall in their laps.
News Flash: It isn't going to happen. You take what you can find and keep looking until you find what you want.
Suing the school isn't a solution.

If she wins the law suit, I'm going to sue McDonalds because I once ate a Happy Meal and felt sad afterwards

As incredibly stupid as this seems, this pretty much sums up the uselessness of getting degrees. This, the usefulness of a college education is suspect at best aside from being a meaningless status you can put on applications. The college is big business and the importance of what they teach you is not worth the incredible sums of money they charge you to teach it.

There's a lot of truth to this. When you have a lot of educated people who are unemployed for long periods at a time, things happen. As incredibly stupid as this seems, this pretty much sums up the uselessness of getting degrees. I will be thousands of dollars in debt for the next 7-10 years of my life because I was forced to take a student loan in order to obtain a piece of paper that says I can do something. And in today's world even that piece of paper means little. 7-10 years? Ha! The President of the United States just finished paying his back, and he's the freaking president! I am always shocked to see how many grads fresh out of university look down on job offers from companies that are in their field. Why? Because they feel it is above them because they have a BA. Yet, they fail to realize that everyone else in their field tends to have a degree, and that they have no experience. Therefore, they belong at the bottom. I blame commencement speeches that tell them that the world is their oyster, when it clearly isn't. Once you've graduated from college, you go straight to the bottom, unless you have sweet connections. College grads should be aware of this, and should stop being so bloody idealistic. Yes, because we all know that Doctor's, lawyers, teachers, scientists, etc, don't really need all that schooling after highschool. It's really just a waste of time for them to be there. I mean, we learn everything we need to learn on House and Law and Order and Saved By the Bell! Completely useless, those degrees are. Someone should've told her... "It's less about what you know and more about who you know." Or who you sleep with.

Actually I can't blame her. While I understand her frustration, I don't know if this is the right move. After I graduated from college, it took me around 6 months to get a full-time job, so I know it can be done. Never mind the job was totally unrelated to my degree, I essentially had an edge on someone who was doing the same job without a degree period.

Never mind the job was totally unrelated to my degree, I essentially had an edge on someone who was doing the same job without a degree period. It's not that great of an idea. Two reasons 1. All you have in life are your connections, especially for a recent grad. Do you really want to burn every single bridge you have by doing this? If I was either a professor or a CS person, I would not talk to this girl, at all, until the suit was settled. In fact, my motivation for helping her is now zero. 2. All you have in life is your reputation. Would you really want to hire Sue Happy? Do you know how many law suits the average employer faces? Now, do you want to hire a woman who has already proven, she will sue over the smallest thing?

Yeah, because 3 months of searching is so long. What a moron. No school promises you'll find a job. Especially not in business. Actually there are a lot of schools that promise to find you a job. Though, they usually say "we'll find you a job within a year" or something.

I was talking to my brother about this today, and he said that she actually may have a chance at winning the case depending on how the school advertises itself.
I remember when I was visiting schools after I was getting out of high school and some of them GUARANTEED that I'd get a job and be paid more then if I graduated from another university (Art Institute of Chicago, I'm looking at you). So if that's anyway this school acted she may actually have a case.

This kinda reminds me of an amusing little anecdote.
I was sitting in my business class my last semester of school, probably the first day of that class. The teacher comes in and after awhile, states, "Yeah, if you wanted a job right after you graduate from here, you should've started sending out resumes a few months ago." I was kinda like, "F***, wish I would've known that."
But yeah, she should've known that she probably wasn't gonna be able to get a job right out of college. Hell, I didn't really have a job until January, and that job only lasted all of tax season and about a month afterwards, since my boss had me come in a few days to cover for her.
Hell, my sister graduated from Northwestern with a degree in law, and her job got deferred until February. It's rough out there. I'm glad I finally have a job that sounds like it could lead to great things.
But she has no room to complain. Try looking for work when your mother is slowly dying from cancer, then she passes away two months after you graduate from college. She has no room to bitch. She needs to suck it up and quick being a goddamn whiny baby.
