Grad Sues College for $70,000 Because She Can't Find a Job Sunday , August 02, 2009 NEW YORK POST
She has given new meaning to a class-action lawsuit.
Trina Thompson gave it the old college try, but couldn't find work. Now she thinks her sheepskin wasn't worth her time, and is suing her alma mater for her money back.
The Monroe College grad wants the $70,000 she spent on tuition because she hasn't found gainful employment since earning her bachelor's degree in April, according to a suit filed in Bronx Supreme Court on July 24.
The 27-year-old alleges the business-oriented Bronx school hasn't lived up to its end of the bargain, and has not done enough to find her a job.
The information-technology student blames Monroe's Office of Career Advancement for not providing her with the leads and career advice it promised.
"They have not tried hard enough to help me," the frustrated Bronx resident wrote about the school in her lawsuit.

I hate to be the douche who brings this point up, but maybe she could consider finding work somewhere else?

Yeah, because 3 months of searching is so long.
What a moron. No school promises you'll find a job. Especially not in business.

I hate to be the douche who brings this point up, but maybe she could consider finding work somewhere else? What? Finding work outside of your major? That never happens! Especially to people with business degrees! [/sarcasm]

As incredibly stupid as this seems, this pretty much sums up the uselessness of getting degrees.

Especially to people with business degrees! [/sarcasm] And bachelors' degrees at that! Yeah, this woman is a serious ingrate. Granted, I'm not laughing at her for not finding a job for her degree (Heck, I don't even have a degree, just a major, and I'm not working a job that has anything at all to do with that), but she seems to be forgetting how many people this has happened to. She better not win, or all these schools are going to suddenly make their tuition more expensive.

As incredibly stupid as this seems, this pretty much sums up the uselessness of getting degrees. When 80% of college graduates can't find anything even entry-level, something like this is the result.

I wish I could sue my school, the new head teacher got rid of the more expierienced teachers and replaced them with ones straight out of Uni as they were cheaper, muppets.

And the frivality of suing a fast food joint for "making you fat" has just been topped.
God, what happened to people? Where'd common sense go? Where'd logic go?

As incredibly stupid as this seems, this pretty much sums up the uselessness of getting degrees. Where I live, when the job market gets bad, even full-time jobs that only pay around $8/hr want you to have a 4 year degree (Where you need to at least be making $12.50/hr if you want to be able to handle life's standard expenses on your own). No degree? Well then it's Burger King or the supermarket for you.

Has this woman been watching the news for the last two years? Does she realize that the unemployment rate is high? Does she know we're currently in a recession? Maybe the college was wrong to graduate her because she can't read a newspaper

Actually I can't blame her. I can, welcome to the real world. Jobs aren't easy to find sometimes, you deal with it, grow up and move on. Life isn't always cupcakes and sunshine. She needs to grow up and get a life.

I agree on the stupidity of this suit. I'd have a little less trouble buying it if she didn't basically give up and blame someone else after THREE MONTHS. My degree in electrical and computer engineering got me a ten month jobless streak before I finally found something for my first post-college job. It was as basically an IT consultant, which got me assigned as a contractor for a system tester for a mutual fund company's software. As you can see, COMPLETELY related to my degree.

It's a moronic thing to actually go through with, yes, but degrees feel futile when you pour thousands into a school and recoup very little. My school is particular did zero to help me out with finding a job (aside from finetuning a resume) even though they have a Career Services department that I visited a few times. The whole reason that those departments exist are to help out students in need of direction. If they're not doing anything, change the dept. or let them go.
