I've always wondered: When Mr. Kennedy introduces himself and decides to repeat his last name, what exactly is he doing? Is he creating hi version of an echo? Is this what some ring announcers used to do before? Can anyone explain it?

I'd always taken it as being a parody of boxing ring announcers because, as I recall, they usually repeated the last names of fighters.

Not only boxing, but wrestling announcers did this during the early days.

That's only because 'Hayes' isn't a spectacular last name. Kennedy is. Of course it is. Esecially is it was like this, 'Michael "P.S." Hayes......P.S......HAYES!'. Then people would have cared.

So did I.
BTW- Kennedy is on Sky Sports News right now.
But he's in character, so he sounds absurd.
Kayfabe outside of the WWE is ridiculous.

They say Kennedy twice because Ken is short for Kennedy. So his name is in fact Kennedy Kennedy, the first time he says it, he's only calling out his given name.

I think I read in WWE magazine that he said he called some ind of sport in high school or college, and a friend of his told him it would be funny to repeat last names. or something along those lines.
And now it's in his shtick.
