Bumping this up as more of these lists should be trickling in in the coming weeks.
The top ten according to Peter Travers of Rolling Stone:
1. There Will Be Blood 2. Children of Men 3. Mulholland Drive 4. A History of Violence 5. No Country for Old Men 6. The Incredibles 7. Brokeback Mountain 8. The Departed 9. Mystic River 10. The Lord of the Rings: The Trilogy

A History of Violence was indeed tremendous. I'd vote that over most movies anytime, anywhere.

The Lord of the Rings: The Trilogy That is an awesome list. I would only switch number 3 with 5 and number 6 with WALL-E.

I'm glad No Country got some love, I really liked that movie and the Coen Brothers.

never heard of #10 or #4, and no way should #2 and #3 be on the list #4 is a Documentary of a man who lived and brefrinded a group of bears in Alaska. He stayed on a week or so longer then he normally does. And the bears that he was friends with had gone back to hibernate, and mountain bears that come down to the shore during the fall came. He was not friends with them. And some of them were kinda starving. And well... He died. Not at the hands of "His" bears, but at the hands of other bears
