Since we are approaching the end of the decade, these lists are starting to trickle out from various places. This one is from the Times Online, UK. entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6902642.eceThe top ten: {Spoiler}10 Hunger 9 The Queen 8 Casino Royale 7 The Last King of Scotland 6 Slumdog Millionaire 5 Team America: World Police (Trey Parker, 2004) 4 Grizzly Man 3 No Country for Old Men (Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, 2007) 2 The Bourne Supremacy / The Bourne Ultimatum 1 Hidden (Cache) At the Movies (the show that eventually evolved from Siskel and Ebert) is also gradually rolling out their list: bventertainment.go.com/tv/buenavista/atm/specials/bestofthedecade/The Viewers Top Ten (so far): {Spoiler}1. WALL-E 2. There Will Be Blood 3. The Dark Knight 4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 5. The Departed 6. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 7. Mulholland Dr. 8. No Country For Old Men 9. Pan's Labyrinth 10. Children of Men Discuss and add your own lists if you'd like. I'll keep adding other lists as they are released (and I'll get around to my own list, eventually).

10 Hunger - Never heard of it 9 The Queen - God no 8 Casino Royale - Agree 7 The Last King of Scotland - I liked it but not THAT much 6 Slumdog Millionaire - 5 Team America: World Police (Trey Parker, 2004) - Yes, I agree 4 Grizzly Man - What? 3 No Country for Old Men (Joel Coen, Ethan Coen, 2007) - I liked it but IMO the ending ruins it 2 The Bourne Supremacy / The Bourne Ultimatum - Hell yes 1 Hidden (Cache) - What?

Both lists fail for not having Sin City.
BTW, Dark Knight, most grossly overrated movie of the decade. If Ledger didn't die it would have only had a modest box office. How anyone can watch the Christian Bale Batman and not laugh at that stupid voice is beyond me.

I think Big Fish could be in the top ten Maybe. I liked the movie, but it came out the same year as The Barbarian Invasions, and they are near identical, except Big Fish is a 1000x more whimsical. Personally I'd split them up by Genre, because it's sometimes hard to compare stuff like say No Country for Old Men to something like In The Loop.

If Dark Knight is so great how come the only time I got at all interested in it was cuz of a 10 second cameo by Zues/Deebo?

I love that Zeus is a criminal of some sort in 90% of his movie appearances, it makes him being Galactic President in Fifth Element that much better.

There are plenty of films from this decade I haven't seen, and others I haven't seen in ages. But here goes a top 10 off the top of my head, in no order. Just "10 really good movies from 2000-09 that I've seen that are better than any others I've seen":
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring WALL-E Howl's Moving Castle Spirited Away Finding Nemo O Brother Where Art Thou? City of God Hero (Xiang Yimou)
Yeah, kids movies and films with beautiful aesthetic presentations do a lot for me.
I also think "The Man Who Wasn't There;" "House of Flying Daggers;" "Syriana;" and "Good Night, and Good Luck" were fantastic.

I have seen Hidden (or Cache) it's a Michael Haneke (the only film I know most of you have heard of is Funny Games and it's U.S remake) directed film set in France. It's about this family that starts getting mysterious video tapes containing shots of their home. It's a good film not great. Well not good enough to make my 2000s top ten films (Coming Soon ). Oh and the ending must be one of the biggest f*** You's to an audience ever.

How anyone can watch the Christian Bale Batman and not laugh at that stupid voice is beyond me. It would of done huge regardless. Ledgers death probably only gave it 5% increase gross 10% at most. The point is Super Hero movies always do good at the box office, movies in the summer usually make more money then any time of the season, and sequels usually make more money then the first one. Plus Batman Begins did well with critics and fans all around and made tons of money. There is no way nobody wants to see a sequel with the most iconic Batman villian starring in it regardless who is playing him.

If you knock 10% off of $530,000,000, that's still $477,000,000. Batman Begins made $205,000,000. Do you really think that The Dark Knight would have made nearly triple it's predecessor without the huge media blitz for Heath Ledger's so-called "tour de force" performance? As soon as Ledger died, the entertainment media spent the next seven months grooming people into a frenzy to see a movie that many of them likely would have passed on were Ledger still around.

In fact the common demographic who were affected by Heath Ledgers death and felt they had to watch it were the 13-18 year old girls. The fact more then half of those people would of watched that movie anyways because either they were dragged in by there boyfriends, friends, or simply bored. Plus the movie was well received by critics and the audience. They would of probably would of been sick to death of hearing how good the movie was from there friends and would of watched it anyways.

What you just described is how Iron Man made just over $300,000,000. There's no way that The Dark Knight would have made nearly 500 on it's own merits. Also, those people you mentioned that would be telling their friends and family how good the movie was probably wouldn't have thought it was that great without being jaded by the Ledger hype-machine. If people would just look at that film without the rose colored glasses, they'd see an okay movie with it's fair share of technical flaws, plot holes, and an inept Batman with a hilariously bad voice.
