LOL...I'm glad we got Snyder for that film instead of Rattner or Bay though.
Better a stab wound than getting shot!
Half the goddamn movie would have been Manhattan shooting fireballs out of his dick and Rorschach and Nite Owl would have been racist caricatures of African Americans and Asians respectively, not to mention Megan Fox as Spectre.
You know, Bay and Snyder are remarkably alike.
Listen to those two sometime. You know how dumb people, insecure of their ignorance around others, try to sound intelligent when they open their mouth? Bay is more obnoxiously obvious about it, but Snyder is close.
I'm not the biggest fan of the "at least" argument. I remember when Terminator 3 came out and everyone was so happy because it wasn't as bad as everyone thought it would. Yet it wasn't exactly good either. Disposable, forgettable, ballsy ending.
Some context is always nice, and yes even looking on the bright side of life (*whistle*), but does that mean we have to excuse mediocrity?
No, not excuse mediocrity, but look at it a different way is all. I'm not sure who you've got in mind that COULD have made Watchmen some Oscar smashing, "Citizen Kane Part II" or whatever. Frankly, I'm not sure ANYONE could have ever gotten that result out of the source material. And as I've said before, I'm well aware that THAT was Moore's original intention...that this material would BE unfilmable, that it would be, in comics form, something that could never be replicated in any other medium.
I'm not trying to defend Snyder as something he's not...but I am well aware of how much WORSE it could have been, is all. Frankly, I think we were lucky to get what we did. Look at some of the other examples I cited, at the results they got, and then look at how much simpler those characters and stories were than Watchmen was!
