I like the fact that Sheamus having the belt means that there are new challengers that can possibly beat him. The Miz and MVP talking about wanting the world title is a good step in my opinion.

same thing they did with Jericho during his first run as champ, same thing they did with Punk during his first 2 reigns, so its not big surprise. Plus Sheamus will lose the title back to Cena soon and you will read stories about how WWE gave him the ball and he couldnt run with it.
I couldn't care either way, I personally think it was a mistake for them to put the belt on him this early, i think they could have built up his heat with a longer feud with Cena, but they were going for shock value and now are probably rethinking the whole thing.

I doubt there is any sort of purposeful burial going on.
They put the title on him to give us an ill advised swerve and now, predictably, have no idea what to do with him. It doesn't help that the crowd doesn't care, but then again WWE gave nobody any reason to care about him so far besides that HES BIG AND MEAN.
I was losing interest in WWE before this Sheamus stuff and barely watching, but when I heard he won the title I knew exactly what happened when he won [flukey looking table spot that makes it look like he won on accident] and what they would do with him after [nothing, aside from keeping the belt warm for whoever is going to main event at Mania].
Stuff like this is why I decided to completely stop watching WWE. I used to still watch at least a RAW, ECW, or SD once a month but now I have completely given up. Vince and co. are living in a bubble and until its popped by bottomed out ratings and PPV numbers they arent going to change the way they do business, so I will spend my time on other things from now on.

I say you blame the fans...they are the ones burying him by not giving him heel heat.
I am still waiting for the next heel that can get 1987 Iron Shiek/Danny Davis Wrestlemania 3 heel reactions

Lesnar, for instance, debuted by beating the crap out of a bunch of people, beat up both Hardys by himself a few times, won KOTR and took out Hulk Hogan plus had the hated Paul Heyman by his side. Sheamus, uh, retired a jobber, is pale, and has spikey hair. Perhaps its more a commentary on the WWEs mindset and lack of creativity these days than Sheamus himself...but the fans are sitting on their hands because they have been given no reason to stand up.

It isn't remotely a burial since the guy has zero business in the main event at the moment anyway, so anything he gets is gravy. Sheamus isn't even on US title level right now, much less WWE champion level. It seems like a Ronnie Garvin NWA 1987 era title run, except Garvin had actually been a top 5 contender for years.
This was a bad move. At worst Sheamus jobs out on Raw and is quickly buried and never put in a major program again. At best he might get DQ win/loss on Raw, somehow get past the Rumble with the belt, but even then he can't remotely win the Elimination Chamber and go to WM with the belt, so his run is somewhat set in stone.
Sheamus will probably end up in a MITB match at WM and I doubt he wins that.

I don't know if I'd classify it as a "burial", but I do think they realized they made a mistake. Sheamus might be a future main eventer, but his time is not now. People compare him to Lesnar, but I don't think that's a fair comparison. Lesnar had a more intimidating look than Sheamus. Lesnar had Heyman to cut his promos for him, and Heyman is a master at getting heat. Lesnar did more than beat up a random jobber and an announcer. And more importantly, Lesnar had a very impressive legit wrestling background. All things considered, fans had plenty of reason to buy Lesnar as a main event wrestler out of the gate. They don't have that reason with Sheamus. He will not make it out of (or maybe even to) the Rumble with that belt. The Rumble is the start of the road to Wrestlemania, and I very highly doubt that Vince wants to start this year's buildup to Wrestlemania with the fans thinking that Sheamus of all people could be in the main event. Now this I agree with. And that's exactly where he should have been in the first place at this point.
