I can't really watch Batman movies before the Nolan movies, especially Dark Knight, without crapping all over it.
They just aren't good by comparison.
Anyone agree? Have thoughts? Want to expound?

I disagree completely.
Batman is still a fun movie in it's own right and has great performances all around. Saying the movies before Dark knight are bad because they aren't as good is ridiculous.
Batman is one of two Tim Burton movies that I can actually stand. The other being Pee-Wee.

They were never good to begin with. Batman 89 is mediocre. Batman Returns is slightly less mediocre. The less said about Schumacher the better.

I never liked the Batman or Batman Returns as others have. Both are just goofy. When someone says there darker than the Batman Forever or Batman and Robin, I just think Prince, giant Rubber Ducky and penguins with rocket launchers. They had nice sets though.

What's wrong with being somewhat goofy? That's what Batman was in those times. It wasn't completely depressing and dark just yet.
It's like hating on Brave and the Bold because it isn't B:TAS.

I disagree, I like those movies in their own right. They're funner, not so overly dark and serious. They also lack protagonists who sound like they gargle with broken glass.
Then again, I don't think The Dark Knight is the be-all-end-all superhero movie that people make it out to be.

I couldn't disagree more. At least where the 1989 film is concerned.

I like Brave and Bold and I like the tongue in cheek 60's Batman. But 60's Batman was meant that way. No one in that world were in any real danger, despite the giant bombs. In 89 Batman, people are getting shot and killed and it's basically for laughs. What other way am I supposed to interpret it when the deaths are done in such comical fashions.

I can still watch the first 2 just fine. I love Nolan's films, but they don't feel like a comic book film so much as a screenwriter writing a comic book.

I can still watch Batman '89 fine. However, Burton himself was starting to "camp it up" even at Returns. Forever and Batman and Robin were just the straw that broke the camel's back.
And that "great" 60s TV show everyone seems to rave about was always dependent on guest stars for good a good episode. Gorshin, Romero, and various Catwomen made the episodes they appeared in good. When the show was just Adam West and Burt Ward and lesser-known villains, it pretty much sucked. They needed someone to "play" off of and weren't very effective comedians in and of themselves.

Ok, Batman and Robin is pretty awful, but still. Now if you said you found the 1966 Batman unwatchable because of TDK, then well...I don't blame you. That movie is (no pun intended here) bats*** crazy.

I've watched Batman, Batman Returns, and Batman Begins since seeing it and had no troubles, personally.

I prefer Nolan's films over any other film interpretations, honestly. My problems with Tim Burton are documented elsewhere, but his Batman films are strictly okay to me. I'm honestly surprised that Johnny Depp didn't play Batman in his films, with Helena Bonham Carter as Vicki Vale, and everyone is now WACKY!!!, and all pretense of substance has gone out the window, and the less said about the Schumacher years, well, as has been said previously, the better. Nolan captures the characters to me in a way that comes across as real, but still menacing at the same time. Plus, he's got Michael Caine as Alfred. How can you not love that?

After Nolan there is clearly only one thing that can be done... BATMAN THE MUSICAL!
Where do all the Disney folk get all their toons? How did Davy Crockett capture all those coons? Why are all my henchmen only second-class goons? If you know the answers then you make a joyful noise And where does he get all those wonderful toys?!

I really didn't like the way Joker was written, nor did I like the way Ledger portrayed him.

I still think 'Batman Forever' was the best one.

I still think 'Batman Forever' was the best one. Proving once again why I am very, very glad WC doesn't actually control the creative industry.
