If I had the choice between Bay and Holliday I'd take Holliday. Bay always seemed vastly overrated to me. Bay is an elite offensive outfielder. Only Ryan Braun had a higher OPS among ML outfielders. The problem is that a lot of people don't look at his defense and realize just how bad it is. He's slow getting to the ball and makes bad reads. Just awful range. When you take both areas into account, and not just look at his numbers at the plate, I don't think he's an elite outfielder. I'd be fine with Boston re-signing him, but I'd much rather have Holliday around for 5 years than Bay.

And even with the short LF, he's a putrid defensive player. Going to Citi Field or Safeco would be some kind of adventure.

For all this talk about Bay the Butcher, in the NL, he doesn't look so bad. He'd be patrolling left field at the same time as Alfonso Soriano, Adam Dunn, Chris Coghlan, Chase Headley, Ryan Braun, Carlos Lee, Garrett Anderson, and Manny Ramirez. He'll be fine.

Dunn seems to be moving to 1B (or at least he spent the end of last year there). And is Coghlan going to be moved back to 2B if the Marlins deal Uggla?
There are some crummy defensive LFers, sure. And I'm not saying Bay is a bad player or will be a bad player in the NL. My overall point is that when you have an alternative such as Matt Holliday, a guy who is a much better fielder, a better baserunner, a better hitter, and a year younger, I think you go after him. Even if the price is a bit higher.

You forget Insomniac not everyone can throw around BoSox, NYY or LAA money.

Holliday will want probably $3-4M more, and probably an extra year. At that point, is there really that much of a difference? It's not like a smaller market team will only be able to afford Bay and not Holliday. If you can pay for one, you can pay for the other.

Apparently Jesse Chavez is great trading chip...
The Pirates used him to acquite second baseman Akinori Iwamura.
Today, the Rays used him to aquired Rafael Soriano.
I wonder if the Braves will continue the trading spree...although this is the 2nd Pirate from last year's team they have received from another team (Adam LaRouche from the Red Sox being the first).
Sidenote: I'd probably prefer Soriano over Iwamura...but I'll play my "wait and see" mode.

They need a starter or two to go behind Santana and someone to get the ball to K-Rod Oh I agree... But they also need to get people in the seats. Lots of season ticket holders are not renewing. It's a pretty sad situation. After the 2009 Mets season, can you blame them?

I think the Mets, should hire the asian groundscrew workers from major league to remind us how bad we will be no matter who we sign. Sigh, 2006 was our year.

For the 2010 season, after every loss they should peel a piece from a cardboard cutout of Fred Wilpon.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak told Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he has extended a formal offer to free agent Matt Holliday
According to SI.com's Tom Verducci, the Phillies "are emerging as the favorite" to land Toronto ace Roy Halladay.
