Bay turned down a similar contract from the Red Sox before hitting free agency

Funny. I thought the teams of the MLB pretty much made the same statement 2 years ago.

Mets are at 4 years 65 million with Bay. If they give him the 5th year as an option, I think we've got him.

Watching Bay try to play defense in LF in Boston is bad enough. Watching him play defense in LF at Citi Field would be hilarious. Watching him play defense in LF at Citi Field in 3-4 years would be just plain sad.

LF defense has never been a strong spot with the Mets anyway. We'll live.

Holliday is the one competent defensive OF of the group, even taking into account the classic Game 3 moment from this past postseason. He'll cost more, but I think he's worth it when you look at defense and baserunning.

He'd be awful at Citifield (he was a 4th OF in Oakland pretty much.)

I think Matt Holliday is such an overhyped player. He'd be awful at Citifield (he was a 4th OF in Oakland pretty much.) Holliday got off to a slow start before finally picking it up with the A's. April: .240/.288/.360 May-July (prior to trade): .299/.400/.480 I think a lot of it was just adjusting to a new league. Same thing happened to JD Drew and Miguel Cabrera. I just like Holliday more than Bay, outside of power and Bay's advantage in BB%. Holliday is a better contact hitter, can hit the ball to all parts of the field, gives better defense, better baserunning, and he's more than a year younger. He's a much more complete package than Bay, who should really be DHing at this point in his career. Holliday's offensive numbers would dip at Citi, but Bay's defense will be a major issue.

The Mets can get either one and still not sniff an NL East title this year. They need a starter or two to go behind Santana and someone to get the ball to K-Rod

It's a pretty sad situation.

Not to defend Bonds, but a large number of the greats were major asses. Also, dammit Giants, Holliday is damn near needed, you guys need some friggin' power!
