If he does sign that frees them up to ship Buchholz and others to Toronto for Halladay, San Diego for Gonzo or maybe even Seattle for King Felix (longshot, but they were working last year to make that happen)

That's why I said longshot, but should've say VERY! longshot lol. Now again there were talks last year and if Seattle goes down hill fast this season I could see it happening in July.

The Angels and Hideki Matsui are in "serious discussions" about a one-year contract, according to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.

But then, this IS Toronto. Apparently, Roy Halladay is in Philadelphia discussing a contract extension in what is the final stages of a three-team trade that would send Halladay to the Phillies and Cliff Lee to either Toronto or the third team involved. I'd like to believe that by signing Lackey, the Red Sox can use Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden or any of their other young starting pitchers in a trade that would land them Adrian Gonzalez or Miguel Cabrera. As solid as the Red Sox starting rotation is, they still need a middle-of-the-order bat to round out their lineup.

Reports are saying there is a three team trade that could happen with the Phillies, Blue Jays, and Mariners, where Roy Halladay goes to Philly, Cliff Lee goes to Seattle, and it's unknown who Toronto gets yet. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4742072

Good luck with one Philly. Also this would make the Mariners an instant contender in the AL.

Argh, Phillies is the last team I wanted to see Halladay go to. Preemptive condolences Mets fans.

wow, if that deal goes through...wow. That is awesome.
Not only would Seattle have bar-none the best 1-2 punch in the AL West(and easily one of the tops in all the AL) with Felix and Lee. Couple that with the fact that Lackey is gone from LAA, and Seattle all of a sudden is looking more legitimate.

ESPN is saying that Halladay would agree to and extension if this deal goes through. Which I would expect, but what about Lee? If he's not, then I don't see the point of trading for him if you're going to have him for only a year or so.

I'd take Cliff Lee over Halladay anyday of the week. Good luck with one Philly. Also this would make the Mariners an instant contender in the AL. You would? They seem about the same to me. Halladay is older, but then again, has been more dominating over time than Lee has. It's kind of a crazy flip. The only thing to fear about the Phillies was the prospect of having both Lee & Halladay in the rotation, it would nearly be a redux of the 2001 Diamondbacks with Schilling & Johnson, along with their top-shelf offense, but if it's just one or the other as the ace, they're still a credible threat, but not a total lock to take home the crown in 2010. With the Lackey signing and the Halladay trade, the Angels are just getting f***ed this offseason. It's finally somewhat a wide open AL West. With Lee & the King, the M's look serious, but only from a pitching standpoint. They need two more bats to make a serious run at it. Also, now with Lackey and Halladay going to their respective teams, I expect the Yanks to throw the bank at Matt Holliday just to counteract the Lackey signing. As for across town, the Mets better make something happen. Halladay, barring injury, is good for at least a 2.3x ERA in the National League.
