Actually Sosa has been pretty lucky with circumstantial evidence adding up (the money in the towel poolside; Manny Alexander's glovebox; etc.). Sure, he was a more physically obvious look because it happened midcareer. But still. Yeah. Sammy wasn't on steroids...he just love to hit a home runs! And he loves Armour Hot Dogs so much, he needs to sing about it! And Goose Gossage told Laurence Holmes of WSCR Chicago in the 6pm hour that he believes that steroid users should not be allowed in the Hall of Fame. It's a very interesting interview and can be found at www.670thescore.com/

There goes everyone that played baseball from the 1980's until three years ago.
Steroids weren't illegal in the states til right around 1990 or so.

Players have been using steroids since the 60s. Hell, it was rumored that Babe Ruth injected himself with extract from sheep testicles. I personally have gotten to the point where I don't care who did what back in the day before MLB did any kind of drug testing. There's no way to definitively say that one person in the hall used PEDs and one person didn't. If they've got the numbers, let 'em in. I'm certain there are plenty of steroid users in Cooperstown already. What would it hurt to throw in a couple more?

According to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs "plan to make a run" at free agent right-hander Ben Sheets.

At the end of the day, my issue with the Hall of Fame is how pompous the BBWAA is about the Hall itself, and they cast their votes with such arrogance that it devalues the importance of being a Hall of Famer. The ultimate example of that is, nobody has gotten 100% of the vote. I want to hear the case as to why guys like Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, Walter Johnson, Roberto Clemente, Joe DiMaggio, and Lou Gehrig don't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. Those are guys right there that should have gotten 100% of the vote, no questions asked. And f*** the Hall of Fame Committee for not allowing players to choose what cap will be on their plaque. I say allow steroid users in. There was plenty of cheating going on before the "Steroid Era".

Hell, it was rumored that Babe Ruth injected himself with extract from sheep testicles. Deceptively vicious animals, sheep. Part of me would like to see Mozeliak just fire Mac in order to lessen the bad publicity coming at the team, but yeah, I don't think baseball was ever truly clean either.

If the price is right (Sheets wants $10-12 million/year for 2 years), do it. Obviously, the Cubs would need to make the contract incentive-laden. If he wants guaranteed money, tough titty. But two years of production/durability-based money for Sheets would be a good investment. Especially with Lilly on the shelf for April (and the Cubs subtly have changed the prognosis to "at least" April), they could use a guy like Sheets as a #3/#4.

There's no way to say it? Let me show you a way. Hank Aaron did not use steroids. See how I did that? I don't know about that. I always heard about how Hammerin' Hank played the game with "pride" and "class". I'm pretty sure those are street names of illegal performance enhancing drugs

Atlanta Braves DFA'd Brandon Jones who hit well in AAA at 26 and is only two years removed from being a top 75 prospect in the MLB.
Time for the Mets to pick up another talented OF the Braves dumped. ;D

The Marlins might have "extra incentive" to keep Dan Uggla next season or offer Josh Johnson a contract extension after the club was chided by Major League Baseball and the players' union for not spending revenue sharing money on player salaries, according to the Miami Herald's Clark Spencer.
MLBPA Executive Director Michael Weiner said in a statement: "...the Marlins have assured the Union and the Commissioner’s Office that they plan to use such proceeds to increase player payroll annually as they move toward the opening of their new ballpark." Spencer speculates that the Marlins will now spend more than the previously-reported $40 million payroll.
That number could jump to $50 million, which would allow them to spend the estimated $7 million that it will take to keep Uggla via arbitration. Johnson has been seeking a four-year extension, a contract that would obviously be easier to grant with increased payroll flexibility.

0:52 mark. You gotta love Hughie Jennings and his crazy dances while coaching third base.
