A girl who I'm good friends with decided that she wanted to move our relationship into a different direction and she asked me out. The thing is, she smokes, a lot....I can't deal with people who smoke, as far as being close to them. I can't stand that smell, and no matter how much people who smoke claim otherwise, they smell like smoke.
So when I said no, she asked me why. I said it's because I can't date a girl who smokes. And she gets pissed and said that I'm shallow.

I think everybody has 1 or 2 things that really turn them off. Also im sure smoking isnt the only reason your not interested.

I think everybody has 1 or 2 things that really turn them off. Also im sure smoking isnt the only reason your not interested. It's probably not the only thing, but it is by far the most important reason why I could never date her. |

Um, that's not being shallow. That's called "looking out for one's own health." I couldn't go out with a girl that smokes either. I can't stand smoking. That's how I feel, too. I've never smoked in my life and generally hate standing close to anyone that smokes a lot. And as for being shallow, she was just lashing out. There was a girl that liked me, and when she brought it up, I politely told her I didn't feel the same and that she possibly mistook my behavior as me liking her. She told people I attacked her "integrity". |

If she were absolutely perfect for you, you were totally smitten and the only thing is that she smoked, I have a hard time imagining somebody being like "oh, but she smokes". If they did I wouldn't call it shallow, but I would maybe say shortsighted. She could quit smoking in a year, and in the meantime some other guy gets her because he liked her whether she smoked or not. That scenario is only relevant if you're really crazy about this girl though, and it doesn't sound like you are at all. |

I can't date a girl who's fat = shallow I can't date a girl who's got really short hair = shallow (to a point) I can't date a girl who's got an accent = shallow I can't date a girl who smokes = you just not being able to stand next to someone who makes a conscious decision to smell like a car exhaust I can't date a girl who is already dating someone else = looking out for your own personal safety. |
