Trolls, Ninjas and Grammer Nazis. The 3 most dominant species on the internet.

My least favorite technique is a mix between the Jaded Skeptic and claiming something is Edgy, though I suppose it's more of a personality type.
It goes like this, someone opens up the post or topic by saying, "I know this may be politically incorrect or offensive but..." and then they proceed to say something horribly politically incorrect or offensive. It's normally something like, "If we really want to deal seriously with the problem of overpopulation we should kill everyone over the age of 70." They add the disclaimer to cover their ass. If they say it's politically incorrect or offensive, and people act offended, then they can "justly" claim that they are only looking at it disinterestedly and in a rational manner.
When the real reason is because they know they can't make an argument for it. They're saying something so stupid because they're nietzschean wannabes. It's sooooo cool to be a nihilistic misanthrope because people just don't understand things the way you do...

The next step, of course, is to learn to program and hack so one can steal personal information (while changing location so your IP doesn't stay traceable too long) and use it to send their targets into financial ruin, get said targets fired, and drive those targets to suicide. That will get them to be taken seriously as an anarchist and candidate for ubermensch. That's what they'd do if they were serious about their "points". And there are already people out there doing those things.

The one they missed, is when people are too lazy to type up something. All they do is quote someone elses thoughtout post, and just put down one word like
"This" or "/Thread"
or they just post a random picture, which they think is a good contribuation.
Heck, nearly half the theads on this forum, contain at least one person doing this. If you can't think of anything to type out, go away until you can think of a good post.

Personally, I think the only two people who should be allowed to end a thread are the thread starter, and a member of a staff. Where other people think they get that authority... I don't know.

I agree, it makes the poster out to be arrogant.

The First Amendment one kills me.
Somehow, 'Freedom of speech' means 'Freedom to say whatever I want with no consequences'.

I see a lot of #10 on other boards. My personal favorite subset of that is the "world traveler." No matter what global conflict or cultural norm is being discussed, "WT" has been to the country, lived among the people and spoke the language. Usually, despite being so well traveled, this person tends to be more closed minded than your average couch dweller.

I'm not American, but I'm guessing, your First Amendment meant by "Freedom of Speech" is that you're allowed to express your opinions. Like Politics, Racism, heck, even what you think of Hannah Montana's Popularity. I guess it doesn't mean "Act like a tit"

There's one guy in particular who keeps doing this (no pun intended.) Even his long posts which consist of a sentence somehow manage to say absolutely nothing at all.

They forgot The Colonel from Monty Python.
"Stop that...this thread is getting silly. This is a serious forum and I will not stand for this silliness one more second. Now stop it."
