The nominations come out Tuesday morning. What do you think this years Oscar nominees will be? What deserves to be nominated, but will probably be snubbed by the Academy?

Not sure I should vote for what I THINK will be nominated or what I WISH was nominated. But thanks for th posting this because I almost forgot about nominations this week.
Speaking of, anyone know a place where there is a nominations predictions game (or contest)? As in for Director, Screenplay, Acting categories, Best Picture, whatever?

Speaking of, anyone know a place where there is a nominations predictions game (or contest)? As in for Director, Screenplay, Acting categories, Best Picture, whatever? Try AwardsDaily. EDIT - As for my guesses, I basically picked random beyond the Locked Five (Avatar, Hurt Locker, Precious, Up in the Air, Inglorious Basterds). I believe I voted Up, Star Trek, 500 Days of Summer, and District 9. Can't really remember the other.

This is what I think will be nominated:
Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Up in the Air, Precious, Inglourious Basterds, Up, An Education, District 9, The Hangover, Invictus.
The first 5 are definite, the last 5 I'm not so sure about. I really hope District 9 at least get's nominated, but I'm hoping for a surprise win.

The Film Experience is good for predictions and what not, as well.
Up in the Air, Hurt Locker, Avatar, Basterds, An Education, Up, and Precious I think are all pretty much guaranteed for best pic. I personally dont think Invictus deserves it, but itll probably get it too.
If it were up to me, 500 Days of Summer and Fantastic Mr Fox would be in, but I doubt either make it.
Itll be interesting to see if D9 or Star Trek make the cut, or if Avatar fills their "sci fi" quota.
As far as individual nods, Im rooting for Viggo to get a nod for Best Actor. I thought he was fantastic in The Road, but precursors havent been kind. And while Cary Mulligan will get a nomination, im REALLY rooting for her to win... even though she wont. But I think her part in An Education was more impressive than Bullock in The Blind Side or Streep in Julie and Julia. Also, im hoping Emily Blunt grabs a nomination.
Though theres little to no chance of either, Peter Capaldi (In the Loop), and Paul Schnieder (Bright Star) should be in the Supporting Actor field imo.
Rooting for 500 Days of Summer for Original Screenplay, and Fantastic Mr Fox for Adapted Screenplay.

I think Avatar, Hurt Locker, Inglourious, Nine, Invictus, Precious and Up In The Air are definitely going to be up. Not sure about the others.
I'll just be happy if District 9 and The Hangover are nominated although I doubt it.

I only seen 11 out of the 20 films you posted up. The six that I feel that deserves to be nominated not in any order are: Up in the Air, District 9, 500 Days of Summer, Hurt Locker, Basterds, and Up. I have to see A Serious Man again for sure since it's one of those movies that get better after every repeated view I think. If the other nine movies I haven't seen are that great, then I'll probably put in The Hangover and Avatar to further build up their cinematic legacies.
Edit: I would also like to say if the other 9 movies are basically crap/ok. I wouldn't mind Adventureland getting a nod.

As long as Precious gets nominated, I'm a happy guy.

As long as Precious gets nominated, I'm a happy guy. How could anything about that movie make you happy?

The White Ribbon will get a Top 10 nomination. I'll be FLOORED if it somehow misses out; almost a lock, I think.

The White Ribbon will get a Top 10 nomination. I'll be FLOORED if it somehow misses out; almost a lock, I think. Not necessarily. There is a train of thought, one I would like to wreck if I could, that the favorites for Animated Feature and Foreign Film have their own special Oscars. Thus they don't belong clogging up a BP slot. Which means some people won't vote Up or White Ribbon.

I haven't even seen it yet, but in terms of hype, I'm thinking Avatar is the only one that will without a doubt get a nomination.

Avatar, Hurt Locker & Up in the Air are the only locks for me. They'd be there even if it was still 5 nominees.
I voted Basterds too but only cause it's 10 nominees this year. There's definitely a spot for it now.

I think, because of the fact they'res 10 nominees, anything could get nominated this year especially those on that list.
Hurt Locker, Avatar, Up in the Air, Precious and Invictus will be there, I'll bet on that. The other 5? Any pick on that list can and will make it there.
I would love, and I do mean LOVE, The Men who Stare at Goats to get something from the Oscars. Damn under appreciated and some great performances especially from probably Oscar nominee Jeff Bridges. Won't happen, though.

What no Zombieland option, I'm insulted. Seriously though District 9 should be, however I'm certain it will not be, IMHO.

I sincerely hope that (500) Days of Summer and Up in the Air are nominated. Two amazing, well-made films that deserve the recognition. I think it's time once again for a real movie to win rather than some pretentious artsy-fartsy Oscar-bait movie.
I'm really going to be bummed if Avatar wins for best picture. It was good, but it's also ridiculously overhyped.
