I'm really hope The Messenger beats out Invictus for the last spot. Such a great movie and Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster both give excellent performances. I don't know what it was about this year in particular, but films about the Iraq War or pertaining to the Iraq War were stunning.

I predict the Hangover for the upset nom. One HAS to believe that Hangover has surpassed Star Trek in terms on chance on getting a nod. Between the Globes and Avatar splitting the Sci-Fi vote, I think Star Trek is more likely to be left out. Although I REALLY want to see both get in.

I picked An Education, Avatar, District 9, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, Invictus, Precious, Up, Up in the Air, and Other (The Blind Side).

I don't know what it was about this year in particular, but films about the Iraq War or pertaining to the Iraq War were stunning. Samantha Morton was pretty fantastic as well. But I thought it was better performances than it was a good movie, personally. Certainly not bad, but not Oscar worthy to me. The White Ribbon will get a Top 10 nomination. I'll be FLOORED if it somehow misses out; almost a lock, I think. Not necessarily. There is a train of thought, one I would like to wreck if I could, that the favorites for Animated Feature and Foreign Film have their own special Oscars. Thus they don't belong clogging up a BP slot. Which means some people won't vote Up or White Ribbon. I agree with this. I really liked White Ribbon, but honestly, id be floored if it DID get a nod. I think Up is a lock, though. Fantastic Mr Fox will be snubbed though, because "a best animated nomination is reward enough!"

A Serious Man An Education Avatar District 9 Hurt Locker Inglourious Basterds Up Up in the Air Invictus UPSET NOM: Crazy Heart over Nine I sincerely hope that (500) Days of Summer and Up in the Air are nominated. Two amazing, well-made films that deserve the recognition. I think it's time once again for a real movie to win rather than some pretentious artsy-fartsy Oscar-bait movie. One of these is virtually a lock (Up in the Air), but 500 Days is almost as much of a long shot as Where the Wild Things Are.

Well I know alot of folks are happy that Woody Harleson got repped for The Messenger. Now I don't have an excuse not to see that.
District 9, A Serious Man, and Up getting BP nods was great. Rennar for Hurt Locker was a wonderful surprise.
Oscars really want that ex-spouses melodrama, don't they?
Also Matt Damon should have been nominated more for The Informant! than Invictus. at least Clint Eastwood still has some Oscar pull.
That Animated Feature category was stacked.

Kinda bummed the Blomkamp didn't get a Best Director nod though. That would've been cool as well.
