As we know, Virgil is best known as Ted Dibiase's lackey, after years of being humilated, Virgil finally stood up for himself which naturally lead to a feud between the two.
During that feud, Virgil was mega over. You can contribute that to A)Ted Dibiase being a damn good heel, B)His previous humilation, and C)Having Roddy Piper to guide him. The highlight of the feud, and ultimately his entire career was defeating Dibiase for the Million Dollar Championship. After he lost the Million Dollar Championship back to Dibiase, he was used as a lower mid card jobber struggling for air time.
Its like the second his feud with Dibiase was over, the writers didn't have anything for him to do. You can contribute it to limited in-ring ability and mic skills, but they could've at least put him in other mid card feuds just for the sake of doing something. Its like they threw him out like a used tampon.
That path followed him through WCW as Vincent, being the NWO's whipping boy. And later as Shane(anybody get the pattern?).
Do you think they could've done more with him?

I think what people forget about Virgil is that he was green as hell. He was Soul Train Jones in Memphis for like a year and then Vince gave him the call to come and be Virgil. He then spent literally 4 1/2 years standing on the apron and occasionally throwing the odd forearm or taking a DDT before becoming an active wrestler again. So really, in 1991 when the face turn came he'd only had a year's worth of experience as a wrestler in his own right under his belt. That said, his pathetic career post-Summerslam 91 is difficult to account for. If nothing else, it makes DiBiase look like a right chump because Virgil literally couldn't get a win for ANYTHING for the next three years. I wrote them all down once. Hang on... oh yeah here! ;D

You can contribute it to limited in-ring ability and mic skills When you are limited in the ring and limited on the mic, why keep him around on the main roster in the midcard? If you had a spot on the mid card, are you going to fill it with someone who has some skill in the ring or with a guy who really hasn't done much?

The true question is why did he last so long in WCW? He didn't wrestle... He managed... But didn't talk? But, why was he there for all that time!!!

To me the problem is One Shot characters. Does it make any sense for Virgil to keep wrestling AFTER beating DiBiase? Its the same with Nailz. Nailz joins the WWF to get revenge on the Big Boss Man. After ending the feud with Boss Man, why would he start one with Undertaker?
Obviously wrestling has its own logic, but when you build everything up towards a single goal, what do you do after the goal is tough.

Well, someone had to post it. Thats actually nicer then reality. He must live somewhere near Toms River. I used to work at the mall in Toms River, and whenever they had any event in the Mall, he would show up and wander around with a marker hoping for anyone to recognize him.

The thing is he got fired right after the feud started, so we don't know how it would've played out(midcard fodder I imagine). Also, Kane can be considered a one shot character if we go by your logic. He was brought in for the sole purpose of feuding with The Undertaker and 12 years have passed by and he's still on the roster. My problem is, why would you put so much investment in them, if you aren't going to do anything with them thereafter? Why hire them in the first place. I say, they should've had him hang around the main roster, gain more experience, and see if the fans really care about him, or it was Ted Dibiase's doing. Though, as somebody pointed out, Virgil didn't have much in-ring experience to carry himself, so it made sense why they didn't do anything with him thereafter.

It's because he spells "MAN" as "VIRGIL".

You can contribute that to A)Ted Dibiase being a damn good heel, I think the word you're looking for is "attribute."

Well, after he lost to DiBiase, what's the point in cheering him?
"Yeah Virgil beat his former boss!!!.......now he lost to him, guess Ted was right all along."
Not to mention his little "feud" with WWF Magazine making him look like a total loser.

I think the problem was he was just to plain, didn't have a personality at all, when you spend almost 4 years of basically being someones servant, it's really hard to bounce back the biggest pop he ever got was when he nailed Dibiase and then they dragged the feud out to long, plus my personal opinion no one cared about The Million Dollar Belt it was more a prop then a true championship
