Let me just start by describing the overwhelming fantastical nature of the last week that my mate and I had in Manchester.
We had gone down to watch the Raw and Smackdown TV tapings, with ringside seats for SD. Being from the UK this is a very rare chance to release my inner mark, so needless to say I was a tad excited.
On the Monday, we got to the arena early to try and see if we could catch anyone coming in. We only managed to get the Coach, but there was also a camera crew there filming for the upcoming DX dvd. They asked if anyone wanted to do an interview for it on camera - so I obliged waffling on about how DX were the epitome of the attitude era, and how that when you have two of the very best of all time together like Triple H and Shawn Michaels that is going to connect with the fans in a big way.
Ah yes reputation diminishing.....probably wont make the DVD but it would be a mild claim to fame if it does.
We then watched what I thought was a great Raw. Next day we were wandering around Manchester and came across what we recognized as the event taxis pulling up outside a gym. Now I am no Columbo but what kind of event necessitates that its stars go to the gym before hand? We decided to wait outside just incase.
Sure enough ten minutes later out walks Chavo Guerrero, I yelled Chavo and he just waved and got in the taxi. That would be good enough but he was followed by Batista and Chris Benoit! Now can I just say that Dave completely blanked us, but Benoit being the legend that he is came over and signed our two little Scottish markish books and shook our hands.
I am hoping that our sign "Batista didnt sign my book" and cries of "Batista fears pens" will make the SD! edit tonight, as from our ringside position, both must have been prevalent.
Further note - Chavo and Chris sharing a taxi? Tonight on kayfabe nightmares....
Following SD! we then went to the Hard rock cafe, were Bobby Lashley was in a cordoned off area up the stairs. We gave up and went to a club across the road. Sure enough Lashley was in with a load of other wrestlers in a cordoned off area up the stairs again. We awaited at the foot of the stairs, and were rewarded with Bobby Lashley coming down the stairs and saying "I will be with you in a minute guys, I gotta go to cash machine."
Cash machine? It all seemed very surreal.
We then sweet talked one of the bouncers into letting us go up the stairs, all be it with him accompanying us. We then spent the next hour or so drinking with the Boogeyman! Who incidentally is the nicest guy in wrestling! He did say that he hopes WWE are going to change the menu soon, but he had so much time for us it was great.
I got very drunk and started babbling on about how much it meant to us - but hell I dont care why not drunkenly get emotional with the Boogeyman every now and then?!
Anyway Bobby Lashley kept appearing intermittently, trying to convince the slightly tipsy Boogeyman to leave. He was also really nice, and signed the book etc. Eventually they left and me and my mate went off with some local women of dubious virtue to a party in the outter realms of God Knows Where.
Not a bad couple of days!!!
Anyway - quick question. As Bobby Lashley is now a close personal friend of mine (exaggerate....me?!) I would like to know what you think about the bizarre nature of his entrance video. HARD HITTING - SOFT SPOKEN.
Why in the name of God are they trying to get him over with "Soft spoken"? Bringing attention to the fact that he is not the best on the mic does not strike me as a great idea, and is being soft spoken really a desirable trait in an "ECW extremist".
Bad marketing in my view, but what do you think? He is a really nice guy, and not so soft spoken when he is trying to convince the Boogeyman to get in a taxi with him at 4 in the morning.
