If the musical talent weren't lacking, she wouldn't have to rely on the gimmicks. The point of that clip is that it isn't gimmicky, just vocals and piano. She can sing well and play well. All the other stuff gets attention which = larger audience. She's not just some hack running around out there in these daft outfits, this is someone that knows music and songwriting. Now how much of the current image and songs being subject to corporate and producer influence is speculative. And my question is, if she's THAT talented(a claim I still dispute, even after watching the video. She's adequate, at BEST), then why does she NEED the gimmicks to get the public's attention? Frank Sinatra-great talent, straight up. He sang, and people loved it. Bruce Springsteen-Same basic principle. There are a TON of artists out there I could list that have great musical ability, but haven't had to resort to the garbage that Gaga does.

Br-Br-Br-Brooklyn Rage, Br-Br- Brooklyn Rage Nyuh nyuh nyuh nyuh
To answer the question, yep, like her, and furthermore, if she has a penis or testicles, I wonder where she puts them, considering she often performs wearing little more than panties below the waist.

I don't mind her. She's pretty creative, charismatic, some songs of her catchy, and I love how there are so many people who think she is a man.

I don't dislike her, but I'm not a fan. But in fairness, I'm really not informed enough about her/ have heard enough of her stuff to have ANY strong feelings one way or another.

Part of me wants to believe she is making a subtle commentary on how stupid the general public and the media are. That she's showing us that all the talent in the world doesn't matter because all you have to do to get mega famous is act bizarre and your awful pop songs will sell huge, but I doubt that's the case. It's this i think. But either way she rakes in a fortune.

Maybe she stole Ray Finkle's method. I'll confirm this by checking her out from behind. Several times at that.

I think she's awesome. I love her image and her music is catchy and fun. Nothing wrong with that.

You know, I feel really old now. I don't think I've ever heard any of her songs, tbh. Will fix that.
Ok, heard a few. I get what people like in her, just a bit redundant in some of her songs. I'm biased because I'm not a big pop fan. It's different, I'll give her that.

I didn't think anything of her when she first came out. "Just Dance", her first single, was really bland and lame, like a lot of popular stuff now.
With time though, she grew on me. "Poker Face" was a little better than Just Dance, Papparazzi is pretty good, and Bad Romance is just awesome.
I think shes talented and her music is catchy as hell. HOWEVER, her image kind of annoys me. IMO, Gaga is talented enough and her music stands out on its own enough that she doesn't need to go AS far as she does with her image. In fact, I honestly think if she toned down the weirdness her popularity would only grow. I think there is a pretty good portion of the population that is turned off to her music because of how just over the top weird she is.
Do I think a unique image is bad? Not at all. I just think she could tone it down a little.

And it seems to be working for her. With an abundance of artists and jaded audiences with short attention spans it's something different that leaves an impression. Controversy creates cash as Eric Bischoff said. But it's not like it's something new, there are also plenty of artists that do similar things from David Bowie to Gwar.

The difference between that being that Bowie has the talent to back it up where he doesn't really NEED the theatrics, and Gwar has no talent to speak of, so they have to lean on it. I guess Gaga's a healthy middle. She can carry a tune, at least, but she has to rely on "I look like a whore from the future" to get fans.

The first time I ever saw what Gaga looked like was when erisi had her as his avatar and sig from the Poker Face music video. And you know what? I didn't even know that was Gaga for a few good months afterwards. There ARE music fans like me, those who just listen to the music and don't really care what the artist looks like. Seriously, I didn't know what Gaga looked like until about a year after I became a fan of her music. So, there is at least one person who liked her for her music from the get go without even know what she looked like.

I don't like her music (what I've heard, not my kind of music) but I saw her on a mag cover today and she looked hot.

Any artist that has ever made a video as an accompanyment to their music is to a degree utilizing theatrics. It's just that Gaga takes it way OTT.

Here's that pre-fame clip of the girl behind the Gaga: That is musical talent IMO. Stripped-down and no gimmicks. The pageantry stuff is the attention grabber, but there is musical ability behind it. If the musical talent weren't lacking, she wouldn't have to rely on the gimmicks. I read an interview she did where she said she in a way had to change her image from that video as everyone kept comparing her to Amy Winehouse. Her songs are pretty catchy but I find a lot of it just too much. Attention grabbing for the sake of attention grabbing. She is very talented though.

Yep I think she's probably the best pop star around at the moment and I like her image, it may be over the top but at least she makes an effort to stand out. And Pokerface, Papparazzi and Bad Romance are all TUNES, Just Dance ain't bad either.
Although maybe wearing a giant telephone on your head like she did on Jonathan Ross show the other night is a bit too much. I like that she makes other lamer pop stars feel uncomfortable too, thats always a good thing.
