In an age where most pop stars are manufactured glorified karaoke contest winners with the personality of a wet napkin, I'm glad to finally have a singer with an actual gimmick (even if it screams LOOK AT ME! a little too much, sometimes).
Plus she appears to have a lot of real musical talent deep down on the surface too.

Big fan of Lady Gaga. Love her.
She is extremely talented, and quite/odd and quirky, with her larger than life weird gimmick. Most relevant musical artist today.

Yeah she is very good and apparently puts on one hell of a live show at her gigs.
Poker Face is one of the best pop songs of all time.

Speaking as someone who typically loathes pop music, I like Lady Gaga. Her tunes are definitely catchy. But I'm not 100% sure why. For the longest time, I knew who she was but didn't know what she sang, despite having to listen to "Just Dance" all the time at work. I liked the song and finally asked someone who sang it. When they answered Lady Gaga, I was like "Really? That's it?" As good as her songs are, they're still just slightly-above-average typical dance music.
To me, the image doesn't fit the music and I expected something more experimental, maybe a bit darker. But then again, if we had that, it probably wouldn't sell. It'll be interesting to see now that she's popular if the record labels will force her to put out the same kind of music or allow her to experiment more.
tl,dr - She's good, but I think she has the potential to be A LOT better.

No. A thousand times no. Forced gimmick and crappy music is not something I like. She's flavour of the month, so to speak. Noone will care about her in five years.

Bad Romance and Poker Face are catchy but the costumes are a bit too much for me.

Yeah I like her
Didn't at first when I reads about her, as she seemed way OTT to me, I assumed covering up for a lack of talent but when I listened to her album, I couldn't help but think "Goddam this is really catchy s***" so I've now got her album on my ipod and love listening to it

Here's that pre-fame clip of the girl behind the Gaga: That is musical talent IMO. Stripped-down and no gimmicks. The pageantry stuff is the attention grabber, but there is musical ability behind it. I wanna ask this girl out to dinner and introduce her to my mom. Lady Gaga, on the other hand, scares the crap out of me.

Her music is the best of a genre that has become very stale. It takes the positives of modern pop music (which are not many) and combines them with very good songwriting and an individual "feel" to them.
Her look, in my opinion, is a bit too much. I understand why she's so over the top, because that further emphasizes her individuality over other current pop music "flavors of the week" and even has an effect on how the listener hears her music. However, I think it just looks like she's trying too hard sometimes.
Overall, I would take her over many current pop musicians today, and this is coming from someone who does not normally listen to too much modern pop.

Absolutely adore her. Great vocal range and showmanship to boot, which is sorely needed nowadays.

I like the IDEA of Lady Gaga but really am not of fan of hers at all. Her critiques about celebrity and popular culture have been done before and better (Madonna, Marilyn Manson), her outfits and aesthetics aren't interesting because they're never consistent--she just throws stuff against the wall to see what sticks (her one performance she described as her tribute to Princess Diana made me roll my eyes), her music is very dull and not engaging either on a purely sonic or lyrical level, she's not attractive (although now her image is being spun at how "hot" she is), and the only "Bowie" thing I've seen her do is the lightning bolt on her face which smacks of her wanting credibility by appropriating an artist who seemingly is beyond criticism than of any kind of homage because her music and her style do not match up to Bowie in any really any shape or form.
The only things of hers I do like is "Teeth" because it reminds me of some of the jazzy Christina Aguilera songs in recent years or the Meshuggan/"Paparazzi" mash-up, which I attribute more to Meshuggah than anything inherent in the song.

I like her.
My personal feeling is, when I was growing up, Pop stars stood out - there were different from you and me. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, George Michael etc...
Then something horrible happened and almost a decade's worth of smart-casual, I'm-no-different-from-you-no-honestly Cowell puppets got spewed out in the 00s. Great to see someone look and act like a popstar again, and have great tunes to back up the gimmick.

I don't like her, I don't hate her. I absolutely nothing her. I couldn't care less about her music or existence. I don't listen to it, and I probably will never listen to it. I've heard a few of her songs, and they didn't compel me to listen more than once. She could disappear tomorrow, and I wouldn't notice.

Her music's catchy. Plus I have to have respect for anyone who can go out there and do what she does. It's not easy to be as far out there as she is when she performs.

i think it's kinda cool that one of the main pop culture influences of the coming decade is eccentric as hell. most mainstream female atrists seem to be being influenced by her (even people who were famous before her, like rihanna, are trying to imitate her), which makes me kinda happy, since last decade tended to be dominated by fairly bland pop music, as opposed to the more charismatic (even if they are bloody weird) performances lady gaga's doing. i'd take that wacko over someone like cheryl cole or miley cyrus anyday, at least gaga's got a personality. plus alot of her songs are good if you just want something catchy to chuck on at a party.
