Coming out of commercial on tonight's Raw, he said "This has probably been the worst night in Bret Hart's life."
Really?
REALLY?
Just how dumb do you think we are, Vince? Seriously. The man's brother died in a WWE ring, he's a stroke victim, then there was the whole Montreal thing, not to mention the other tragedies that Bret has overcome.
Someone needs to be reprimanded for that. Seriously. I turned Raw off after that. I haven't done that in years.

As I said in the Raw thread, I get that they have to hype these storylines and flush out the stories, but that was one of, if not the most, idiotic comments I've ever heard on WWE television. Whoever fed that to Cole needs to be smacked.

I don't blame Cole. He's being fed the lines by a scheming Tony Schiavone backstage.

Do you not think you're taking a tv show slightly too seriously?
Cole doesn't really think it was the worst night of Bret's life. It's just a storyline.

A bum knee that he's been selling match in and match out for 20 years CLEARLY tops the deaths of a man's parents, brothers, brothers-in-law, the sudden end of his career, and the stroke he suffered.
That comment by Cole is one of the reasons people loathe him as a commentator. He may not come up with these lines on his own, but seriously, nobody else but Cole says THE most idiotic things.

It's a television series rule - anything happening right now is automatically worse than anything that happened before. Otherwise it wouldn't exactly hype anyone up, would it? "Oh this is really bad, but not as bad as that one time his brother fell to his death!" just doesn't sound right - and yes in theory you could just say nothing, but that wouldn't get any hype going either. When you're on the spot and have to say something, sadly this time it's something us smart fans know isn't particularly true.
I really don't think it's that big of a deal, though. It's kayfabe, and hell; they even used "professional life" just to make sure you got that. Bret wanted to give his final goodbye and he was made to look a fool yet again, so it's pretty bad as far as his professional career goes.

Cole could have easily said "This is an extremely awful night for Bret Hart" or AT LEAST "One of the worst nights of Bret Hart's life." Those would've been acceptable and would accomplish the same thing. But no. Cole said it was "THE" worst night of Bret Hart's life. Instead of accomplishing what they desired to with a line like that, they instantly made people call bullshit because we KNOW Bret's had worse nights than this, easily.

It was stupid, but I'd be lying if I said it was even close to the worst verbal gaffes in wrestling, with a live show meaning a lot of crap slips out.
JR comparing Umaga to Katrina?
Austin's blatantly racist remarks at Hassan and Daivari?
After stuff like that, this is child's play, even if it was a wallbanger.

Absolutely mindblowing. I could not believe what I just heard, not only once, but TWICE. Who the hell does he think he is talking to? I can't take this company much longer.

No offense, but then don't. I had to walk away for a break myself a few times in the past, though I was less offended and more burned out than anything, near 2005. It's supposed to be entertainment, so if you're not entertained, take some time away from it. Either absence will make the heart grow fonder, or it'll be out of sight, out of mind.

Well, he DID say "Probably". I'm curious if people will quieten down a bit when the clips get out and it turns out he wasn't quite as specific as people thought they heard. I'm almost certain I heard a "this may be the", "one of the" or "probably the" before the now infamous quote - but I digress, I wasn't deeply listening to Cole or anything either - so we'll have to wait and see. But yeah, don't get me wrong - it was a stupid thing to say, I'm just not really phased. Like Bradley mentioned, wrestling is practically a encyclopedia of one stupid example after another and this is far from the worst.

Since for some stupid reason the Bret Hart joke thread was locked, can we do those here?
