Look, we all know it's fake. Still, there are some things you don't say to attempt to not disrespect nor damage anyone's intelligence TOO much. If John Cena as a face lost his world title in NYC and Cole said "THIS IS THE WORST EVENT IN THE HISTORY OF NYC!!" you wouldn't get a little irked? No, because its a wrestling show. I don't get "irked" watching wrestling. Ever.

That's nowhere near the level of inaccuracy, not even close. Bret Hart had an absolutely horribly bad (kayfabe) day. He made the difficult decision to "retire", then had his bloody leg crushed in a car door! Yes, that's technically not the worst day he's ever had, but it's extremely close. Cena losing in NYC would be nowhere near as high on the list as the worst event in NYC history.

Cole could have easily said "This is an extremely awful night for Bret Hart" or AT LEAST " One of the worst nights of Bret Hart's life." Those would've been acceptable and would accomplish the same thing. But no. Cole said it was "THE" worst night of Bret Hart's life. Instead of accomplishing what they desired to with a line like that, they instantly made people call bulls*** because we KNOW Bret's had worse nights than this, easily. WWE doesn't care about the minority who are taking a TV show wayyyyyyyyyy too seriously. People around here really need to lighten up.

well
not to defend Michael Cole
but at the Royal Rumble Jerry Lawler said that he didn't think Undertaker bleeding was possible, and he didn't know his blood was red.
First time ever that happened, yup.
I found that to be much more idiotic than this, to be honest

OK, all I'm seeing here are people telling others to stop being offended and to have thicker skin. Two things on that. First, stop telling people what they do and don't have a right to be offended by. That's so pompous to tell someone who may have taken offense to something that aw you just need to be tougher man. Knock that crap off.
Secondly, I didn't hate the comment because it offended me. I hated it because it was such a stupid slap in the face to anyone paying attention to this storyline. You know what offends me? Dropping a stuffed doll in Owen's ring gear from the ceiling. That would offend me. Vince outright making fun of Bret for having a stroke. That would probably irk me. This was just STUPID. Did they not stand in the ring with Bret two or three weeks ago and talk about how he's a recovered stroke victim? Does anyone not know about what happened with Owen at this point? Even new fans probably learned about it when they first started advertising Bret and they looked him up to see what his deal was.
So you're going to sit here in one second and tell us about this heroic recovery from a devastating stroke he suffered, then try and sell us that this little boo boo on his leg is the worst night of his life? He didn't get to sock Vince in the face and had to look in mild discomfort while being put in an air cast. Boo freaking hoo. Worst night of his life my ass. It's when they try to go too far hyping something where they come off like morons. Then when it's delivered by that crafty old drama major Michael Cole that it just becomes intolerable. So no, I wasn't "offended" by that. Well, maybe just offended by how STUPID it was.

Coming out of commercial on tonight's Raw, he said "This has probably been the worst night in Bret Hart's life." Really? REALLY? Just how dumb do you think we are, Vince? Seriously. The man's brother died in a WWE ring, he's a stroke victim, then there was the whole Montreal thing, not to mention the other tragedies that Bret has overcome. Someone needs to be reprimanded for that. Seriously. I turned Raw off after that. I haven't done that in years. What I want to know is if after saying it, did he feel remorse and regret phrasing it that way or did he just think "oh you know what I meant". I feel it's the latter so he can certainly eat it. VINTAGE BROADCASTER MICHAEL COLE: You're a veteran. Stick to the script and don't come off like a douche.

it was only one line, said by a fairly minor character on the show. it's not like cena said it right at the pinnacle of his "get well soon" to bret or anything. yeah it was stupid, but personally i'd forgotten about it seconds after it had been said. this wasn't any kind of significant hype for the storyline, so i think what the "don't be offended" crowd are getting at is just how small this is. i'm a bit taken a back that a few posters have said that this seriously affected their enjoyment of the show. that makes no sense to me. it was an insignificant, isolated comment.
i know that what we're debating now falls into the category of "feeling emotions: you're doing it wrong", but you get my point. the comment meant nothing, it holds no weight, and it doesn't really merit the kind of anger that people are throwing at it.

What irked me more, for the few minutes I've watched lately just so I could see Bret, was hearing them essentially say that Bret had vanished off the face of the Earth for 12 years.
Not like he went to WCW or anything. Wait, WCW? What on Earth is WCW?
</WWE suddenly creates a DVD featuring WCW>
Oh, THAT WCW! Be sure to drop $24.95 on it!

So no, I wasn't "offended" by that. Well, maybe just offended by how STUPID it was. Once again thanks for summing up how I feel about something in an articulate way. They could have mentioned all the horrible things that have happened to Bret and gone for a sort of "Cant the guy catch a break" kind of angle instead of saying it was the worst night of his life. When just 2 weeks earlier you have Bret talking about how he used to cry himself to sleep and that he felt worthless and pathetic it is pretty easy to realise last night probably wasnt that bad. Last night was a step in the wrong direction for me. The promo 2 weeks ago from Bret was everything I wanted from a Bret promo. Even though I thought Vince was too OTT the ending of Batista holding Bret for Vince to spit in his face as the crowd chanted for Cena was one of the best endings to a Raw of all time. They don't need to use stupid angles to get this over. I don't want Bret to break into Vinces House or Vince to attack Bret's son in the parking lot. It doesn't need those shortcuts.

So no, I wasn't "offended" by that. Well, maybe just offended by how STUPID it was. I expect professional wrestling to be dumb and goofy. That's one of the reasons why I frequent these boards. But there's a fine line between being a living B-rated movie and being so bad it keeps you from suspending disbelief. Watching Hart walking down a hallway talking to a bunch of random wrestlers on his way to the limo, and knowing that something wrong was going to happen was just the kind of dumb goofy humor I like to get out of wrestling. What Michael Cole was fed, twice, was an asinine statement. No one who knows a fourth of Bret Hart's biography is going to say that a car going 1MPH and slamming his knee into a limo is the worst night of his life. We just had a promo video telling us about the time he was screwed out of his title, a night that apparently was so important to him that he chose to come back to reconcile and bury the hatchet. I mean, if accidentally getting his knee broken is worse than that, I wonder how long Bret's grudge against that dumb girl is going to be. How many shoot promos he's going to give on her, and how many interviews with canadian newspapers will be filled with his whining.

Jeez! The only thing Cole is guilty of is overexaggerating. It's not like he was mocking Owen's death. Calm down everybody.

Is it wrong that I find Cole awesome?
Without him, it'd just be a boring show. When you add him constantly saying stupid things, at least his stupidity is entertaining, unintentional or not.
Also, I would MARK if something silly happened in MSG and he said "This is the worst thing that has ever happened in NYC." In fact, have the Twin Towers somehow in view, in a picture on the wall, or something of that nature on camera while he says it.

I am amazed that so many people are telling others to suspend disbelief or "it's just wrestling what does it matter" when just two weeks back, they made a huge deal of Bret's stroke, his time in a wheelchair and, how he hated his life then but, none of that compares to a broken leg now.
Also, for the sheer number of people on here who bitch when people don't care and ask why they watch, when people find something the care about, y'all sure are quick to shit all over them.

And they'd play"Sweet dreams and flying machines" in the background. Have Cole say "where were u when Cena lost his title? I remember thinking 'is this a joke?' at first.....". Have someone come up to Vince while he's reading One Fish two fish, red fish blue fish, and whisper in his ear. No, that'd be too far. Also....is it me or are the mods becoming more animated these days? I thought they were like those Buckingham Palace guards. Or like Chief. Never say a word, never move a muscle.

Since for some stupid reason the Bret Hart joke thread was locked, can we do those here? Yeah I know I saw it locked and was like "omg no wai". I'd make the WNoBHL joke here but don't want this one to get mysteriously locked.
